The peacock garden is such a unique experience. We loved the different areas to eat meals - breakfast in a cozy cottage building overlooking the peacock garden, and lunch and dinner in a different beautiful building overlooking the garden. The staff went above and beyond to assist us when our luggage was delayed. Each night we returned to our room to find turndown service and a fire crackling in the hearth. We stayed at 4 different accommodations during the course of our 10-day tour of Ecuador and Galapagos and this was hands down our favorite. If we find ourselves in Ecuador again in the future, we would go out of our way to stay here again.

Wonderful resort feel, we stayed in Cabana 24 right in front of the lake incredible views of mountains and lake. Restaurant was a little pricey but wonderful food and again beautiful views right on the lake. We had a fireplace all though the wood was damp so had trouble keeping it going, there is no heat so it was a little chilly in the evening but they give you hot water bottles with these cute cartoonish chicken covers they were silly but so useful. We had a large sofa, coffee in the room, a Jacuzzi tub and nice functional shower. Our front porch was wonderful has a swing and a table and chairs very comfortable place to be. The property has everything mini golf, water sports, bunnies goldfish ponds, chickens, ducks, frogs at night, beautiful gardens just fabulous atmosphere. We even saw they have a super cute little daycare place so traveling parents can get a little break, it looked like a really fun place for small children and toddlers. We felt very pampered and blessed to have a few days here at the end of our two weeks in Ecuador. The location to get into Otavalo was great too close but removed from the city feel.

Some folks go above and beyond, and Patricio is one of them. He provides everything you need, and even at night gives you a hit water bag to keep your feet warm in bed. The rooms have great views, he’s a trained chef so you can purchase meals if you want, he has a kitchen for guests to use if you prefer. It’s a short walk up to great trails on the mountain, or to the lake if you prefer that. And his children are super friendly and helpful. A perfect stay.

Cozy and vibrant town with various options for leisure. Surrounded by volcanoes. Loved the craft market, food, landscape, beautiful people. locals are proud of their rich culture and heritage. Performances on the streets, coconut icecream, decent coffee. Spent 2 days in Otavalo though wouldn't mind to stay for few days longer.

Ibarra is a quaint city with a small old town nestled at the base of the Imbabura volcano. The mountains surrounding the city are majestic and green. On Avenida Retorno there are a lot a great little restaurants. We love coming here. Our favorite restaurant is Chamuyando. It is a beautiful converted home with a wonderful courtyard and garden. We love sitting on the veranda and enjoying the garden. Super good food. We also love the drive around the Laguna de Yahuarcocha. There is a fun little water park there.

Big ex-pat community. Lots of English speakers and North American amenities. Lots of outdoor activities but be aware of and prepared for the altitude. Walking around cotacachi was very easy and fun to walk through neighborhoods. The local bus station has busses coming and going constantly so easy to get to neighboring communities.

An ideal size city, big enough to have a lot going on, but small enough to be easy to get around on foot and feel safe even out in the streets at night. So many great places to eat, and of course the crafts markets including the Plaza de Ponchos (but be sure to check out the other markets more off the tourist track) are amazing. Outside the city, the surrounding villages and attractions such as the Peguche waterfalls are worth the time to go see.

Ibarra is a beautiful, safe, small city with a perfect climate.. never too hot or cold. They have beautiful parks and architecture in the centre and a big park with skating facilities on the edge of the centre. If I could find an apartment here, I'd stay for a couple of months without hesitation. There's a beautiful big lake nearby and you're only one hour from Otavalo and just over 2 hours to Quito, and only 2 hours from the Colombian border

We took a bus from Quito to Otavalo and then used taxis to get around very cheaply. The highlights were visiting Parque Condor (so many birds of prey to view in large cages, all rescued, including two condors), a ride on a boat (30 min) at Cuicocha National Park (its a crater lake created by a volcano), and of course shopping at the Otavalo Market (so many beautiful handmade items to purchase).

Ibarra is beautiful, small, friendly, tranquil

Ibarra is beautiful, small, friendly, tranquil I love the proximity to outstanding nature whilst you can get anything you need done here. Doctor, dentist, tailor, beauty treatments, etc. Mercado Amazonas has anything you may need or want, from amazing fresh food, to cooked traditional foods, to consultations with local herbalists, to bedding, clothes, wellie boots... I had a broken, very large tent zip replaced here, it was a massive problem as it rendered my tent useless, it cost only $11 and was done the same day!!! It’s easy to get around, taxi anywhere in Ibarra is $1.25 and $1.50 at night. Great connection from here to pretty much anywhere, on the bus, including Colombia.
