The Guggenheim Museum was a 15 minute walk, the old town was 20 minutes walk but you go through the Grand Via. A nice leisurely walk to the old town was simply unexpected. What I did love was the room lay out. There was an ante sitting room before the bedroom. Very cozy and well lit despite the low floor and no view. I did not mind. I was a little disappointed with the Guggenheim museum from inside. I have been to many museums around the world and in Spain. This was my least favourite. Some of the exhibits were closed due to renovations. The Erriberako Merkatua (the fresh food market) was also very disappointing. I found the restaurants were always very full with very few employees to serve you. To be seated often the wait was 20 minutes. The street signs were not clear and google maps when walking, was very poor. Many of the locals did not speak good English. I had brushed up on some Spanish before going. Most importantly, since I did quite a lot of shopping I was not made aware that for the VAT refund you had to get a DIVA form from each store. Great location, short trip to Ferry, Very good wifi in room, Max Centre very close for fast food, secure parking for my motorcycle from 11pm to 8am, I still recommend to use locks on your motorcycle like every other hotel. The beaches and harbour were lovely.
The beaches and harbour were lovely. It is well worth taking the gondola across the water to the local cafes and old town area. The promenade is long and makes wonderful walking by the sea. There are all kinds of games and water sports available. Getxo is a Spanish resort. Bars in town offer snacks (pintxo) with beer/wine etc. Restaurants are on the promenade reached by lift. The Museo de la Paz is impressive, a visit there cannot miss during the trip. For dinner it is necessary to book a tablet in advance, as per all the cities in the Basque Country. With the Eusko train you can reach in 30 minutes some villages on the coast such as Mundaka and Bermeo, very beautiful places. First of all Lekeitio is a very safe town. Walked a lot and always felt safe. It is the best little coastal town with beaches, bakeries, bars, restaurants, parking, grocery and other stores, within walking distance. We stayed at 20 Beheko Kalea and it was a perfect location - the port was about 4 minutes away. Didn't go into the water at the beach, but my grandkids did later this month and they totally loved it. Visited this quaint beach/surfer town in off-season and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very few foreign tourists. A couple nice tapas bars were open and filled with locals. The nearest beach is just minutes away The hanging bridge (puente Colgante) is an extraordinary piece of engineering and is the most predominant feature here There’s a produce market - fruit/veg/flowers and plants three times a week.
