This is a great place pre/post crossing, to relax and recharge in the fresh air. The hotel is historic, whilst also having all you need - a comfortable bed in a temperate room. We dined in the restaurant, and would recommend this. The food was sublime, offering local Ardennes dishes, some with a twist. After a long drive from Calais, I was looking forward to...
After a long drive from Calais, I was looking forward to having a good rest and a pleasant stay. I found the hotel quite easily – it’s quite close to the main routes on the outskirts of Sedan. The rooms (for my small group) had been allocated, which helped. Unfortunately, all the rooms were a bit on the small side. The twin bedded room I was in had little room to move around and contained a table that sat in the gap between the beds so I could not get through. Moving it to the foot of the bed meant there was no room to move around anywhere. As I was sharing with my Son, it was clear it wasn’t going to work, so I asked to move rooms and did get moved to a triple room which gave us a bit more space, but not much. The beds are quite small too and my tall Son spent two uncomfortable nights. Additionally, the tiny shower room (no room to turn around in the shower and a toilet with no elbow room) had a problem with the drains...it smelled quite unpleasant. It’s a low-budget hotel that needs to spruce itself up. We went for a walk to see a bit of Sedan – the centre is about 20-30 minutes walk and ok for a night out. There is a Chinese restaurant and a bar about 5-8 minutes walk from the hotel, so it wasn’t too far out.Guest review byJonUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Signy-l'Abbaye is the quintessential French village, located in the lovely Ardennes region of France, an area of rolling countryside, close to the Belgian border and the town of Charleville-Mezieres, well worth a visit. The whole area is distinguished by historic monuments, including some fortified churches. Vireux-Wallerand was a beautiful town situated on a gorgeous river where there are plenty of walks available. It is a great base to travel all around the Ardennes region be it France or Belgium. we were just passsing through The food in the restaurant at the castle was not good-very basic despite the menu, tomato tart was stale and dessert not well presented or tasty service very slow Breakfast was poor- not much selection and poor quality. One has to be impressed with the way the owners have taken an old chateau and turned it into a holiday venue. It has all the facilities you need with a great breakfast thrown in.
