Everything went well, we had stayed at Hotel La Monnaie previously and were very pleased to see the renovations they had made since we last stayed here. The Hotel is very well situated near to the busy cafes and restaurants. The room was very well appointed as was the ensuite bathroom. The staff are very helpful and friendly and nothing too much trouble. We will definitely stay here again when we are next in La Rochelle and look forward to seeing the new Spa.

Love this place. Photos don’t do it justice! Gorgeous rooms - every detail has been so well thought out. Exceptionally well appointed room. Breakfast is brought to the room - small terrace outside overlooking the sea & the quiet road in front. Very welcoming team. One huge added advantage is the adjoining restaurant ‘Manger sur la Plage’ which is also very special. The whole visit was an absolute treat.

    Loved this city. Very vibrant but relaxed at same time. Spent four nights and this was probably enough to see most sights. Spent lots of time just wandering around. Saw aquarium, bunker, cathedral and spent day on Ile d'Aix. This was highlight of trip.

    Hidden gem only 30 mins from the coast.

    Hidden gem only 30 mins from the coast. Historic Roman sites! Small city to walkaround. Beautiful walks along river with fishermen. Many people stay in Saintes at Le Parisiennes, use it as a base, then visit the coast. You can also get a train down to Bordeaux.

    An unexpected visit due to an issue with our truck but the place is lovely so I am quite happy we had the issue. I would definitely go back and stay for li get next time round. The beach front was full of lovely bars, restaurants and shops and the harbour/port area was also stunning.

    Rochefort is a very nice town by any standards.

    Rochefort is a very nice town by any standards. It has lots of history in that it was where the French made their eary war ships and there is a dedicated museum to this, The town is laid out on a grid system so its easy to navigate. Huge street market once a week, plus an indoor market place. There are lots of other museums and you should get on line to see all the attractions that are available. The locals are very friendly and helpful, the cafes vibrant and well priced and the whole town is clean.

    Very safe town to walk around, some nice upmarket shops. Plenty of places to rent bikes. I found a lovely little beach for a morning swim 1.4km from the port, it had a well marked swimming area and lifeguard, locals were taking their early morning swim there, highly recommended.

    Stayed here for one night on way back to UK from Spain.

    Stayed here for one night on way back to UK from Spain. Accommodation basic but just what you need and clean staff friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay again maybe more time next time to explore la Rochelle. Had a great night's sleep too parking great and my 2 little dogs made welcome too. Close to amenities restaurant and shops.

    Sainte Marie de Re is very quiet with not many shops or restaurants. There is a Carrefour supermarket and a small market daily. A lot of places were close early which meant we had to travel to St Martin de re , La Flotte or Bois de Plage to eat .

    Lovely beaches and restaurants, the train station is very close to the centre and very good for taking trips along the coast we went to La Rochelle which was only 20 mins so much easier than taking a car

    Even though La Flotte doesn’t have the broad sandy beaches...

    Even though La Flotte doesn’t have the broad sandy beaches like those on the other side of the island, it has a delightful village atmosphere and an abundance of restaurants and bars. La Flotte is connected to the rest of the island by the free shuttle bus, the 150 bus from La Rochelle, or as is very popular, by bicycle. There are many dedicated cycle paths and the island is flat. St. Martin is nominally the central point of Ile de Re and the arrival port for the ferry from La Rochelle. La Flotte is 10 minutes away by shuttle or bus. Dining in La Flotte I highly recommend Chez Nous Comme Chez Vous, for excellent cuisine.

    We were very happy that any time we needed advise or suggestion everyone we met was extremely helpful and even when we missed the last bus to return to the hotel late sunday night we were invited to sit in lobby of waterfront hotel as they called a taxi for us. Very good memories.
