FAQs about hotels in Normandy
Remembering the Past, Relishing the Present
Bordered by the English Channel, Normandy is a sleepy French region that sees many visitors arrive via its major seaports – Cherbourg, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham.
Between these last 2 is Deauville, home to some of the most exclusive Normandy hotels by the beach. Its pristine sands and international film festival have secured its prestige for the glitterati. The surrounding region of Calvados is famous for its cider and brandy, and Normandy also home to camembert cheese.
Calvados was also the site of the Allied landings and Booking.com has a great range of B&Bs and hotels near D-Day beaches. Caen, the Normandy capital, is a lovely city that houses the Memorial for Peace, a museum detailing the effects of conflict, and World War II in particular. North of here in Bénouville is Pegasus Bridge, while the D-Day beaches span from Ouistreham to Arromanches, home to another of Normandy’s WWII museums.
Inland is the Bayeux tapestry, a huge, hand-stitched depiction of the Norman conquest of England. Off the region’s western shores are the Channel Islands, while at its south-west corner are Avranches and nearby Mont Saint-Michel, accessed via a causeway.
Other Normandy attractions include Rouen, a historic city with colourful, half-timbered houses and an archaeology museum housing finds from the Roman amphitheatre down the Seine River in Lillebonne.

Wonderful historic city, but we wouldn't stay longer than 24hrs again. Kind of did the main attractions in a day. If you include a Sunday in your schedule, largely everything is closed. The attempts at shared transport initiatives and prioritizing pedestrian/cycle in the centre has resulted in incredibly confusing road layouts for all. There is little logic to the layout. We were on route north from a drive/stay in central/south of France and similar initiatives worked better, and without the bizarre road paint.Guest review by222DanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!Guest review byRaymondUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Honfleur is a beautiful place to visit, old streets with lots to see and explore. Nice walks through parks, by the harbour and around the town. Plenty of bars and restaurants. Easy to get to from Le Harve and only 2.5 hours from the tunnel it’s a great place to start or finish your journey.Guest review byMikec28458United Kingdom - 8.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Bayeux is a lovely, well-maintained, safe and easily walkable town. We used it as a base for three full-day tours to the Normandy beaches and Mont Saint-Michel, so we only had time to explore the Cathedral on our own. Unfortunately, the Bayeux Tapestry had been temporarily removed by the time we arrived, so we did not get to visit that. It is advisable to make restaurant reservations if there are ones you do not want to miss, but seeing the sites was more of our priority. We were willing to eat around 6:30 or 7:00 and we did not have any problem finding a satisfactory meal.Guest review byRichardUnited States - 10.0

We arrived in late afternoon at hotel and toured island first in evening hours - great idea as less crowded and still light enough to wander the streets and alleys. Toured the abbey the next morning - around 11. Already getting crowded - should have started earlier. But well organized and flows well within the Abbey. Well worth the visit to see this unique and historic structure - magical.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0

The cliffs of Étretat are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, but note that lots of other people think that too! So there are crowds of people, tourists from all over the world in this small seaside town. Parking is difficult to find or you have to park 1,5 km away from the town center.Guest review byIEVAGermany - 10.0
