We came for the Rederie.
We came for the Rederie. Overall we had an excellent experience. Huge event, very well organised, the streets felt super safe and secure. We found lots of good and interesting things at fair prices. We enjoyed our interactions with the majority of stall holders. BUT - one sour note, we found some traders suggesting ludicrous prices - vingt-quatre euros for things not worth vingt euros. We suspected that they were offering special prices for the English. And this was confirmed - we overheard several saying things like "When we hear the English accent we put the price up!" Well take note - a)most English people understand French and b) that attitude spoils things for everyone .... We would also have liked there to have been a higher percentatge of more specialist stalls - a very high percentage of the stalls seemed to have a pretty random selection of items for sale rather than focussing on specific areas of art and design. This made it difficult to tell one street from another. Amiens is a handsome city, with very good buildings from all ages, and very clean, civilised streets. And its very easy, and enjoyable, to get around - on foot. Meanwhile, the city bus network is excellent - the buses are frequent, inexpensive and its easy to buy tickets and understand destinations and correspondences. We LOVED the museum. Fabulous collections - archeology, paintings, sculpture. Brilliantly curated and displayed. Marvellously informative labels. Superb architecture - inside and out.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 4.0

In the middle of the night the fire alarm went off, we all woke up at the hotel to see what was happening, they told us that someone was smoking in the room but they didn't know from which room so the alarm stayed on for 20 minutes without us knowing where and of course no one could sleep, plus the room wasn't clean at all, there were green insects on the mattress and furniture, and the air conditioning barely worked and was very noisy, in conclusion I don't recommend it and I will never stay there. They also told me to email them my IBAN account for the breakfast refund because I paid them without knowing that I wouldn't get to eat it because I couldn't catch the plane. I sent the details but in fact it wasn't the correct address, they gave me the wrong email address, and there was no one at the reception after 8:00 PM and I left the next day.Guest review byLauranceRomania - 10.0

An elegant small city just two-and-a-quarter hours from Calais, and about 60 minutes north of Paris, Compiegne is certainly worth exploring. It is also a great place to stop off to, or on the way back from, a longer holiday in France.Guest review byNigelUnited Kingdom - 2.0
It was perfect for an overnight stop on our way home.
It was perfect for an overnight stop on our way home. However, the hotel let us down as we were told when we arrived we needed to pay an extra 11 euros if we both wanted a breakfast. We were asked what time we would like breakfast to be served. In the morning the hotel was locked and no breakfast to be enjoyed!Guest review byAnthonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

One comes to Chantilly for many reasons, the first is why I visited, for the Chateau de Chantilly. Its collection is world famous. Shocking masterpieces from the Italian Renaissance, many of the greatest masters, and 16th century stained glass windows. Displays of mid 18th century Chantilly soft paste porcelains, also the somewhat horrid taste for hunting prevalent with the rich. Many hunt scenes with dogs, wild animals and well, you get the picture. Others come for the horses, and polo . I think many come to walk in the parks. And one must visit Senlis, a 15 minute bus ride , get off at Ecole/Notre Dame and you're in Gothic France, and visit St. Pierre cjurch, hopefully open for an art exhibtion. Lots of walking around..Guest review byMONROEUnited States - 10.0
The historic center of Senslis is amazing.
The historic center of Senslis is amazing. It can (and has) been used as a movie set for many historical feature films. Tuesday morning the farmers market occupied most of the streets, complementing the many specialty stores selling fromages, charcuteries, and fruits/vegetables. It is not touristic at all, no souvenir shops or postcard stands ... just offers a walk back in history - a true gem.Guest review byPatriciaUnited States - 10.0

This was just a stopover for us, so we only had half an afternoon, an evening and a morning but this allowed us to see everything we wanted to. It's a lovely town to explore on foot. We particularly enjoyed the medieval town and the old fishing quarter. If we'd had longer we would have taken some longer walks and maybe ridden the steam train over to Crotoy.Guest review byDianeWUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Our visit was a Saturday in August, the main streets were decorated with balloons and umbrellas, the pavements were full of restaurants/cafes tables and chairs, very festive. A bonus was the use of old fashioned wooden games with instructions, unfortunately only in French. The cathedral was a disappointment, very large, very beautiful, half empty and all information posters in French only, could do better!Guest review byjohnnydgoodeUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Abbeville is a hidden French gem, close to everything .
Abbeville is a hidden French gem, close to everything . Near beaches, war memorials ( battle of the Somme ) chateau's to see and the shopping is great. People are friendly. Lots of money has poured into Picardie due to Macron and this being his home area. Paris is close and so is Amiens and its canals and catherdrals. Abbeville has stunning old streets and houses and beautiful Catherdral. A well kept secretGuest review byMichelleUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Le Crotoy is a village we have been coming to for many years. It is a perfect holiday destination with excellent beaches, bars and restaurants. Hotels are good, in particular Les Tourelles and there are many small towns worth visiting. The steam railway to St Vallery and Cayeux is well worth doing. There is a market every day of the week in a nearby town. If you like fish this is the place to come to.Guest review byroyUnited Kingdom
