The other side is the beautiful lake where you can sit on chairs right next to the water while you eat and drink wine. The character and history of the building was beautiful. The staff was excellent, especially the waiters and waitresses. I am vegan and my boyfriend vegetarian, they were more than happy to make us amazing meals! There is a plant based menu for dinner as well which we were so happy to see. The food is wonderful and beautifully presented. We lived in Lyon 25 years ago. It has changed with a much higher tourist population than we remember. Old Lyon has taken on a more tourist feel to it than we remember. We had a day in Annecy, so we took the Annecy city tour bus for 1 hour / 15€ per adult, which gave us a good overview of the town. It stops for 15 minutes at the Basilica of the Visitation, which is quite majestic. We then explored old town - easy walking along the lakeside, Pont des Amours, the Jardins de l’Europe, and the canal. In town, the Palais D’Lille, the Sainte-Claire Gate, we made a wish at the well of Saint-Jean. We dined at Taverne Le Freti, Rue Sante Claire, they specialise in Annecy's signature cheese dishes - we can highly recommend them, make sure you book and if you want the Raclette, book inside. The next morning we enjoyed browsing a food and clothing market across from Pont Perriere, before leaving. Annecy was definitely worth the visit.Guest review byMARCSouth Africa - 10.0

It is a great place to visit. the view on Mont Blanc was impressive. you have to be lucky to get up Aiguille de Midi as access is totally depending on weather conditions. Tourist office is extremely helpful. Lots of places to eat a big variety of food. We really enjoyed Grenoble.
We really enjoyed Grenoble. It is a nice friendly city with good transport. We visited the art gallery and the cable car. The scenery is stunning. We were only there two days but with more time would have ventured out of the city into the countryside. We would recommend the Belle Idée restaurant. After Grenoble we went to Aix. The first part of our journey was on a beautiful little train from Grenoble towards Gap. This went through the Alps and this journey was amazing. To be honest, Valence is an ugly city.
To be honest, Valence is an ugly city. The Rhone flows through it but alas large motorways beside it. The centre is a bit run down. If you are on your way and are near it, you can visit the centre and have something to eat. There is a nice park near the river.Guest review bybNetherlands - 8.0

Interesting town with cultural heritage. I was just passing through en route from Italy to London but it is a perfect stopover for one night. Unfortunately I was there on a Monday, when some attractions eg the castle are closed but I did visit the cathedral. I made 3 separate booking .You have to buy your own Toilet paper .room cleaning is extra charge .If I booked 3 times in separate occasions they must be doing the bed and give the cleaned room to me no matter its same room . Aix-les-Bains is a very pleasant town on the shores of the biggest lake in France: Lake Bouget. There are lots of restaurants and places to visit including a Casino, mountains and water sports. Lyon is a nice city with a town mentality (a good thing). Green areas within walking distance. Pleasant parks and public gardens without crowds. Lots of drinking water fountains. MAC (museum of contemporary art) is really worth visiting. The city centre is a bit crowded but that's nothing compared to overwhelming Paris. Regarding the Villeurbanne itself, river banks are green, no beaches, waffle booths or "tourists" with portable speakers near the river. The streets are mostly empty, though singing and shouting students sometimes appear. A nice quiet district in my opinion.
