FAQs about hotels in French Riviera
Sunshine, Stunning Scenery and Celebrities
The French Riviera (or Côte d'Azur) boasts mountain backdrops, beautiful beaches and palm-lined promenades. It’s a year-round favourite of artists and celebrities - maybe the reason why, of French Riviera hotels, 5-star properties are high in number.
Several are in exclusive Saint Tropez with its pristine beach and marina full of expensive yachts. Boats cross the bay’s turquoise waters to the Blue Flag beaches of Sainte Maxime, and Port Grimaud, overlooked by Grimaud castle.
Le Lavandou has a wonderful beach and marina, while Fréjus has a waterpark, and neighbouring Saint Raphaël’s promenade and coastline are dominated by the Esterel Massif. Famous for its glitzy film festival, Cannes spans a wide bay and has designer shops and grand villas. Protected by a sea wall to the east, Antibes has a Picasso museum in its castle.
Nice is the Riviera’s largest city and Nice Airport is France’s 3rd busiest. Known for the Promenade des Anglais and large squares, it houses most Cote d’Azur hotels on the beach on Booking.com. Next door Villefranche-sur-Mer has brightly coloured façades at the water’s edge and is separated by a promontory from dramatically located Beaulieu-sur-Mer.
The region’s most easterly town is Menton, at the foot of the Alps, while glamorous Monaco is home to an F1 Grand Prix, and a world-famous casino and royal family.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 335 reviewsThe location is just beautiful with great views of the sea and beach on your doorstep. Great food across all parts of the hotel, breakfast, main restaurant for dinner and a choice of the pool bar or beach restaurant for lunch. The team are very welcoming and attentive with a great eye on personal service. Wonderful to also see the hotel manager Stephenie meeting and greeting everyone on a daily basis across the day. The rooms and terrace make the most of the location and full markers for a comfortable, spacious bed with quality linen too.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom
- From US$209.77 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 360 reviewsThe hotel is one of the more luxurious ones and met my expectations. However, what I enjoyed most during my stay was the staff – an intelligent, witty man at breakfast served us better than expected. I can say the same about the waiter in the restaurant during dinner; the effortless elegance and impeccable service during dinner will be remembered for a long time. The restaurant is highly recommended; although the prices are high, it's definitely worth it!Guest review byHannaPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 367 reviewsAmazing place to celebrate some special occasion. In our case we celebrated wedding anniversary and it was just perfect. The place, the room, the views - everything was unforgettable! We booked just standard room and I was worried that it will be like a cave (based on provided photos) but it was super nice, cozy and light, with 3 windows and even side sea view.Guest review byIryna TotskayaSwitzerland

I was in Nice for the second time, this time my destination was Monte-Carlo and Cannes. What I really don't like is that there were a lot more tourists compared to the end of October than at this time last year. It would be a shame if Nice also disappeared, because of the foreign traffic.Guest review byBártfalvy GáborHungary - 10

Cannes is one of the most beautiful places I know, the Croisette with its luxury hotels and private beaches, the hills behind, the rue d'Antibes with its restaurants and amazing shops, the harbour, the old town. Very unique.Guest review byClaudineUnited Kingdom - 10
Menton was charming - lots of history, quaint.
Menton was charming - lots of history, quaint. Small village feel but quite big, interesting and very beautiful. Glamorous but low key and without an overly ‘touristy’ feel. Great restaurants, nice also with the Italian feel. Prices reasonable, great markets and plenty to do. We stayed in such a great location within Menton too.Guest review byAlisonAustralia - 8.0

Favourite places are: Picasso Museum, private small galleries, Marche de Provence, small squares and streets, harbor and paths along the seashore. We ate in small restaurants and on our own with local foods. Local staff at bus and train stations are not friendly.Guest review byZoranSerbia - 10
It was crowded.
It was crowded. It was market day and there was a Porsche event with about 800 cars m/l. The town knows how to handle a large event. We got lost but John rescued us. The police are not very helpful or friendly.Guest review byJoelUnited States - 10

I could see us staying in Beausoleil for a longer period in the future. The local markets are fantastic and we did lots of shopping there. We have been staying in Monaco for 15 years almost every year and in the Beausoleil side and have been very happy with the distance to places. Lots of stairs though if that's an issue. Morning traffic in the shopping district is enjoyable to watch and the lifts take you to the beach in 5 minutes.Guest review byMariaFinland - 6.0

It was like being on a film set with millions of extras swanning around. We liked the hop-on hop-off bus tour. We ate in an Italian restaurant because our hotel, The Ambassador’s restaurant closes on Sunday evenings so be warned. Driving around the city not to be recommended because of all the tunnels. Great for luxury boat and car spotting. Full of entitled people.Guest review byMarionUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Enjoyed swimming, walking along the sea front and the ports and having coffee overlooking the sea front. Didn’t really see the uphill historic part, which I regret. The Tourist office at Saint Raphael was helpful as I needed a bus timetable. I’d say you need to be reasonably fit ( or have a car) to stay in the area I was in as in fact buses were few and far between so I did a lot of walking. I was on an Interrail pass so also enjoyed a little side trip out to Nice, which has good and frequent rail links with Saint Raphael.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 10

We like to fly into Nice and head to Saint Raphael as it’s a large coastal town with a harbour but smaller than Nice and beautiful promenade and many restaurants . I can swim in the sea everyday and grab the sun . It’s a lovely town . Very easy to grab a bus for day trips to other places or a train. We love heading to St Tropez for a day trip . A lovely bus trip . Cheap and great views of the coastline . Also Agay is beautiful resort . You could do Cannes . I’m not sure as regards nightlife as we are are here to relax . There is a harbour and yachts aplenty . So there are options to indulge in sea/ water activities . There is a Monoprix supermarket on same street as large church and few minutes into front of train station . Various Pharmacies . (Important to note that as of this year you cannot purchase strong painkillers from a pharmacy in France . It’s by presciption only . So if you need or require some ensure you take them with you .) .great boulangeries and cheesemongers . There’s also a fruit , veg , Fish market worth a visit . Saint Raphael is all walkable and I spotted many visitors who were wheelchair users . So access appears to be good here . We usually return to Nice for 2or 3 days for more of a city vibe .Guest review byarthurUnited Kingdom - 10
It's simply wonderful.
It's simply wonderful. The town is just the right size, not too big yet not too small. All the facilities are within walking distance. There are lots of bars, reataurants and shops, including supermarkets. The beach is great, too. It's not overcrowded. The prices in some eatieries might seem too high, but it's possible to find some affordable places.Guest review byZygmuntPoland
