we didnt spend time in Winscombe. We visited Chedder Gorge -went into a fasinating well labelled cave, ok for us, an old couple, to do. Wished we were young enough to be capable of engaging in the many interesting physical challenges available! Enjoyed Weston Supper Mare -lovely coastal walk and the millienial area plus that museum up the hill and excellent icecream all in Bristol. One of us climbed the Tor in Glastonbury. The cottage was comfortable and had good facilities. However,if you are taking your dog(s) to stay there,at the moment the garden is NOT secure,though enclosed. The property is clean and well maintained and hopefully recommendations made will be addressed to make improvements. If guests have mobility issues then walking here would be problematic as it is very hilly.There are lovely places to walk once in the village of Blagdon with lovely views too. Great location, quiet in the countryside. Welcoming and helpful staff, food menu is limited but fine for me. Fussy eaters or Vegans may struggle. Good selection of drinks. Breakfast available (not stated on booking info) at extra cost- that's fine 8.00 am until 10.30 ish? Free parking close to accommodation. Room layout not great with power point behind bed. We have stayed here before and it was as good this time as previously. It is an ideal place to stay if you have an afternoon flight the next day from Bristol Airport. We also had lunch here which was very good. The room was pleasant and comfortable although there never seemed to be enough light. The breakfast offered a lot of choice although too much emphasis on sourdough which is not really to our taste. Lovely location quite English village. Easy to get to. Very good local Pub. There is no local shops so if self catering take things with you. There shops in the next village about 2 miles away. There are lots of public footpaths to explore and the views accross the area are great. Winscombe is the perfect location for a holiday in the Mendips. The very friendly village has shops of every kind ...including a bakery and a butcher.... and the surrounding countryside ...including Mendip Hills in every direction... is stunning.
