This was a hotel with the best staff I have ever experienced. Very attentive, polite, helpful and courteous. The rooms were beautiful and very cosy, the beds were comfortable, Wi-Fi worked well. It was wonderfully quiet at night. Dinner and breakfast in the adjoining restaurant were excellent. There were plenty of parking spaces nearby. The lounges and bar were very inviting. I can highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice decor of the room. I personally found the bed and bed linens to be extremely comfortable. Nice bathroom with good shower. Location is very convenient as it’s in town and close to restaurants and supermarkets. There is a bar downstairs, but it closes around 11pm on weekdays and after that everything is quiet. Self-check in is easy and the owner is easy to reach if there are questions or problems.

The breakfast was great, food, staff and dining room was extremely pleasant. I’d been wanting to stay at Shrigley for years and my stay exceeded my expectations. The room with the view overlooking the front was amazing and I particularly enjoyed and appreciated the original features and history of the building it has a real Downton Abbey feel to it. Loved the town, daughter has her heart set on Hallam uni now. Keep an eye on which way you walk in and out of the city from the hotel as there were dodgy areas, like any city. Loved the fact that the centre is almost all pedestrianised. Had a fab meal in Bella Italia.

We always enjoy Matlock and visit approx twice per year. Nice walks, very good fish and chips. Aquarium well worth a visit. Would like to go on cable car but have to buy a ticket to include all other attractions at the top. Think this is probably good for families etc. but as two older visitors, one of which will not go in caves etc. it would be nice to be able to just buy a ticket for the ride up and down.

Small town, as a good base-location to walks to Mam tor (and back), the various Caverns (ticketed entry mostly), and the Cave Dale - a beautiful picturesque rocky trek with extremely steep slopes either side.
