FAQs about hotels in Scotland
A Rugged Jewel
With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!
The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.
The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.
The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.
As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

- From US$266.39 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 2,734 reviewsThe staff were exemplary both in friendliness and professionalism from the minute we arrived. All staff were always ready to assist and nothing was a problem. The room had fantastic views with all facilities we required. Both breakfast and dinner were of a very high standard and again the staff were extremely friendly. The location is second to none with beautiful coastal walks on your doorstep. We would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly return.Guest review byEllenAustria

Great city for 3-4 days vacation.
Great city for 3-4 days vacation. You have a feeling that you time traveled into the past. Many nice things too see and buy. And the food is excellent - I recommend Filling Station. Take a train to Glasgow and Stirling if you have enough time.Guest review byKresimirCroatia - 8.0

Arrived by train at Central station, two Taxi-drivers told us they did not know the Apex Hotel which was only a few hundred yards away. I suspect they did not want a short booking. We decided to walk. As two eighty year olds with suitcases after a long journey from Essex, this was exhausting! Then to be told that there was no bar or evening restaurant gave us a very poor initial impression. The room and breakfast were fineGuest review byColinUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I stayed in Inverness for a week. I loved it.
I stayed in Inverness for a week. I loved it. It is a great small place to explore both Inverness and also surrounding areas. The modern city has a good combination of beautiful nature and historical aspects. Many interesting places are close together so very walkable. I thought it was very cleaner and brighter than Edinburgh. I felt a sense of calmness there after visiting Edinburgh. (I like Edinburgh, no offence here). I did a bus tour to Isle of Skye and one day visit to Fort Augustas. There were many tours available from Inverness and transport system is very convenient. Bus drivers were funny and kind. Weather was good too. It was beginning of September, some mornings were a little bit chilly, but daytimes were mostly pleasant and showed blue sky every day. I enjoyed everything about Inverness. I truly recommend spending some time over there when you have a chance to visit.Guest review byR S CJapan - 10.0

Only had a day there but went on a boat trip in the morning. Nice little shopping centre and the church was worth a visit. Lots of shops, pubs and eating places. Had a very nice dinner at Crannog restaurant. We were too late to see the Museum as it was just shutting at 4.00 pm.Guest review byAnitaUnited Kingdom - 6.0
Oban was great. My booking through Booking.com was terrible.
Oban was great. My booking through Booking.com was terrible. The hotel (Great Western Hotel) was a mess. Booked a third floor “Family Room” ($270), two beds. Upon arrival the elevator (lift) was not working nor had it been working for 8 days before our arrival. My partner uses a cane/walker. Had to walk up the first flight of stairs, even the front desk mentioned she could not walk the stairs as she was winded with the first flight. Offered a first floor room, one bed that was so small you could not get around. Offered a second room… a bit larger but still one bed the carpet had holes, mold in the walls, bathroom was dirty. We opted for a new property again booked through Booking.com. Booking.com offered us a 20pound voucher for our troubles. We have used Booking.com as our go to online booking site. We will no longer be using booking.com as they are willing to book you, but will not back up their booking. Booking.com through reviews (if they cared) would have noticed the negative comments being made. yet still was booking through the website. Even contacting Booking.com my calls were dropped or sent to a dead line.Guest review byPaulUnited States - 6.0

Pitlochry is a beautiful town, but now so many visitors you cannot get in any restaurants unless booked in advance and walking on the street is hazardous for anyone with mobility issues as you have to keep trying to avoid people not looking where they are going.Guest review byAnnaCanada - 10.0

The fact that we stayed beside the grounds of the Battle of Bannockburn was fantastic, great history, unfortunately the visitor centre was closed during our stay. We were there for the history and were not disappointed, taking in the Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Battle of Bannockburn, The Kelpies, and the Falkirk Wheel. Having a rental vehicle with built in navigation was a bonus and made getting around so much easier than if doing so strictly by map.Guest review byrobertsonCanada - 8.0

The hotel was very close to the bus stop which took us to Arbroath, a cute little village that we wanted to see. The bus station and cruise terminal were also close to the hotel. The dining options in Dundee were great, many to choose from, people in the shops friendly. The visit to the "Discovery" ship was great and would recommend this attraction. On the whole, it was easy to get around Dundee on foot or using the local bus. The local bus drivers were great and helpful to us as overseas visitors but some were very gruff, rude and unhelpful and assumed we would know things that as overseas visitors, we had no idea and spoke to us in a gruff and abrupt manner. This was the only detraction.Guest review byDaleAustralia - 10.0
I love this neck of the woods.
I love this neck of the woods. Plenty to do if you are an outdoors person or just want a break from busy places. It is a nice laid back location where there is a lot less hassle. Lots of nice food places - either restaurants or take-aways and plenty of shops where you could buy your own food if you don't want to go out. Highly recommended. If the weather is not so good there are plenty of lovely places you can drive to within 45 minutes.Guest review byMarkUnited Kingdom
