- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 80 reviewsIn my long experience with renting rooms all over the world I have seldom found a place of this level of excellence. Centrally located, a spacious room with a town and sea view, clean, excellently equipped, extremely reserved and quiet. The host is a musician who is very fond of and well rooted in Hebrides’ culture. If you are interested, he generously shares his vaste and detailed knowledge of the island. Without him we wouldn’t have discovered so many interesting places.Guest review bymargheritaItaly

There’s not much to see and do in Stornoway but it is an excellent base for exploring Lewis and Harris. It was easy to reach the main tourist spots of Ness, Callanish, Carloway and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Also not far to experience the stunning scenery of Harris including the famous Luskentyre Beach. In Stornoway itself, the walk to the Iolaire Monument and the visit to the Lewis Castle Museum were both worth doing. The best place for lunch was Lantair.Guest review byIsobelUnited Kingdom - 8.0

It’s an ideal location to explore the island with a fascinating history. There’s a cafe, but I didn’t try it. It’s a place going through a change now, with a lot of young trees growing and some pretty gardens.Guest review byStephenUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Hen way b&b was lovely.
Hen way b&b was lovely. Joe was kind and thoughtful to our needs. He went out of his way to help Giving us detailed ideas on the best sights to visit. The cottage is small but the breakfasts were massive Full Scottish breakfast has 8 different food on the plate.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We loved our accommodation at Coleil Cottage and the area in general. It was a good base for travelling to the North or South of the island. Being next to the coast, it was a great area for whale and dolphin watching. There were many wild birds, including cuckoos and even rabbits and chickens in our garden.Guest review byGillUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Trish and Stewart were were hospitable hosts , an immaculately decorated and presented B&B , very much different from the 1960s when I toured with my parents. We would highly recommend 43 to coming guests.Guest review byColinUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Uig is full of lovely walks and beaches, and there is plenty of wildlife, we got views of white tailed eagles, and seals. Seatrek located nearby was fantastic, offering trips around the lagoon and out to the natural arches.Guest review byRogerUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Carloway is a great base for exploring Lewis and Harris - we covered all our bucket list without rushing. A lot of main sites of interest are very close. Forget shopping at Tesco or CooP in Stornaway - Carloway has a Community Shop which is really well stocked and open 6 days until 18.30 and benefits locals not multi-nationals. Suggest working out what you want to see and be flexible with weather as to what to do each day.Guest review bymalcolmUnited Kingdom - 8.0

This review is more about Lewis and Harris, Sandwick is a small suburb of Stornaway. It has an interesting memorial to HMS Iolaire. We spent 4 nights on the island. Although the weather was pretty awful, the island is lovely and we spent a fair bit of time touring Lewis and Harris. The Butt of Lewis is nice and there is a lovely walk to Eoropie bay with lovely sandy beach. We are interested in birds and found Red necked Phalorope, GND, Red throated Diver, Golden Eagle, Guillemots, Fulmars etc. Take the drive across Pentland Road it is lovely and good for birds. Sadly we didn't really have raptor weather (lots of rain). Stornaway is a bit limited - if you want to dine out book well ahead as there aren't many places and they fill up quickly. We enjoyed the Boatshed at the Royal Hotel for dinner. EVERYTHING closes on Sunday (including most of the petrol stations so beware).Guest review byPaul A. MooreUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Stornoway is an interesting little town with Lews castle and grounds well worth a visit. It is a very good starting point to explore some of the island-places to visit include Callanish standing stones, the Black House, the Black House village and the broch, all of which are on the one road that leads directly out of Stornoway. There is also Harris to visit and famous and stunning beaches, but we ran out of time !Guest review byHazelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Highly recommend Loch Eriscort Hotel for an evening meal. Food was absolutely delicious and very well presented. Great views over the loch, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a white tailed eagle (we were lucky enough to see it)Guest review byDebbyUnited Kingdom
