FAQs about hotels in
Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine
The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.
Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.
Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.
On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.
We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

I came for the end of school of my 15 year old son and becouse of him. He said 5/5 specially becouse of outdoor training with a fitness master and table tennis lessons and other amneties and food and room and pool and beach and hotel :) I can personally add in short.. everything here is very nice... but staff.... staff is really exceptional. On all levels. Very very kind. One of a kind experience. Uff yes, and food as well. For sure I will come back and I will reccomend Grecotel to my friend as well.Guest review byKsenja KSlovenia

Before our stay I communicated with the staff and they were great at getting things organized with quick turnarounds. They ALL speak English and are happy to help. We did a last minute car rental, available on site. Gorgeous vehicle and so convenient. The restaurant was amazing! Definitely a 5 star, great food options. Everything we ate was delicious and well made. Service was excellent. Dessert was devine! The views were excellent from our patio AND the restaurant. ..... highly recommend this place!!!Guest review byEstherMexico
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 312 reviewsLoved it! Hotel was a good size with two pools, two bars/restaurants and it’s right on the beach, as well as being very close to bars, restaurants and shops and a few mini golf/arcade type places. Staff were all lovely and our room was clean with a big balcony overlooking the hotel and the beach. We did all inclusive and the food was amazing with so much choice. Drinks choices were great too, especially liked being able to help yourself to wine, beer and soft drinks. We’ll definitely be staying here if we come back to Crete.Guest review byNikkiUnited Kingdom

Room was large, comfortable, clean, and modern. Complimentry bowl of fresh fruit, raki, and bag of peanuts. Also free toiletres. Biggest advantage undoubtably are the efficient, polite, friendly, and always smiling staff. Very good breakfast also, with a large selection of choices, including fried eggs, bacon, sausages, and even mushrooms. This should be a 4 star hotel, not 3 stars. It was about a ten minutes walk uphill part way to Koutouloufari, loads of restaurants and bars, a fabulous experience. Walk a little further and you come to Piscopiano, also excellent. Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.Guest review byAMELIAUnited Kingdom - 10

For those who want a quiet get-away and yet close shopping, Kissamos is hard to beat. Close to the port for Balos-Gramvousa excursions and secluded for a wonderful relaxed time with your loved one. Gramvousa Restaurant is a must, a short drive to a memorable dining experience. Loved snorkeling and fish sightings around rocky areas. Pictures cannot capture the panoramic breath-taking setting.Guest review byRonCanada - 8.0

lovely holiday spot, plenty of shops and restaurants, everyone extremely friendly and helpful. About an hour from airport, went to spinalonga and did a few walks, also did the 4 hour train ride which was lovely to see mountains, bit of history etc, wasnt too hot. Both of the bays were good and safe for swimming - one of them a bit pebbly getting in, the other was fine. Supermarkets well stocked. Elounda is flat so easy for walking although pavements a little bumpy. All very accessible and walkableGuest review byAnonymous - 10
Malia is a great place for food, beaches and a good location...
Malia is a great place for food, beaches and a good location to explore some of the surrounding areas. The old town provides amazing Cretan restaurants, pretty much all good, and some, like the Avli, Getonia, Sokaki, and Brassierie are excellent. Book a table if there in the busy season. There are local palace ruins which are well worth a visit and easy to get to on the happy train, which is also an experience on its own and does various trips up to the hills as well around town and locally. If there for while definitely book some trips out on a boat, as the sea is just deliciously clean and refreshing, and if feeling adventurous take a boat to Spinalonga and have a wander among the old leper colony. If you can get up in the hills, a visit to Lasithi Plato and make sure you stop off at the restaurant Taksiarhos - where all the food is home made by Joanna, the wife of Taksiarhos who owns this place - it is a complete treat to meet both of them as have a truly authentic Cretan meal and experience. And once the cave is back open (hopefully in 2026) visit Zeus' birth place just a little further up the hill. But of course, the weather is just fab here so do enjoy the sun be it on a beach or by a pool!Guest review bySara GodfreyUnited Kingdom
