Other hotels we saw you are walking past their outside area and pool so not very private, Honeymoon Petra is more private and you have uninterrupted views! No need to go to Oia for sunset and compete with the crowds. Truely a beautiful spot. All the staff are attentive and friendly. The pool was so deep and fun to dive into off of a platform they have. Tip the men who carry your bags well as they work so hard carrying the bags to the hotel rooms as you have to walk there. The cave room was incredible and the view from the shower out of this world! We loved staying in Oia, mid October had perfect weather! The crowds were not too bad expect for when the cruise ships came in, we avoided the town from 10am to around 1:00pm, evenings during the sunsets it gets crowded but it worth it to watch the sun go down, the sky lights up and is so beautiful, you can't miss it. Schedule a catamaran or private boat cruise, we highly recommend getting on the water to see it from the sea. Liked that it was away from Fira. Fira so crowded. One day 6 cruise ships in Port. We ate 2 nights at Romantica taverna. Traditional Greek restaurant, good food and happy staff. the views - night and day were great, The people are really friendly and the food.... fantastic! the protion sizes are huge, they really like to feed you! good quality food too. Favourite restaurants Nouassa No Name Bechemal Easy to get around Santorini - use the local buses from the main bus station. There is a bus timetable for all of the services. the signage on the buses isn't always clear, but you just ask the bus driver or ticket conductors. You will need change for the buses - most journeys are 2 euros. they only take cash. You will do alot of walking - comfy shoes are a must and there are alot of steps too.....this may impact anyone with joint issues. Akrotiri - great place to visit - you can also take a boat ride around to red beach. Local homemade lemonade is the best - served in quite a few cafes Mythos beer is a good beer Thira and Oia get quite busy when the cruise ships dock.Guest review byLouise - 10

On arrival it is confusing - hotel is built on upper slopes of caldera, so it has different levels. On the plus side as soon as you leave the hotel you are on the famous Fira/Oia walk - turn right for Fira. You are on the highest part of the caldera so initially it is downhill, also you are close to Skaros rock which is worth visiting for the views and has a church partially hidden on the seaward side at a slightly lower elevation. Lovely village but getting very busy. Restaurants were excellent and staff in them very polite and attentive. Firostefani was a good choice of Santorini location for me.
Firostefani was a good choice of Santorini location for me. Even at the end of the season, the main town of Fira was overcrowded with cruise ship visitors every day, and had some very high prices in the shops and restaurants. Firostefani is only a mile from Fira centre with good communications but is less crowded and (slightly) less expensive. There are plenty of restaurants in Firostefani, the two I liked best were Onar and Aktaion. Also there was a good, reasonably priced take-away called Why Not. Firostefani (and many areas of Santorini) has small mini-markets but no good supermarket. Anyone self-catering would find food shopping expensive and with limited choices.
