FAQs about hotels in Istria
Land of History, Sun and Wine
The land of stony beaches, sapphire seas and rocky mountains, Istria is the largest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a popular tourist destination famous for its cuisine, weather and wine.
Istria has been a part of many powerful empires: the Byzantine, Roman, Venetian, Austro-Hungarian and more recently, Yugoslavian. Each of them has left an easily recognisable mark on the architecture, giving you an opportunity for a crash course in the region’s fascinating past just by travelling around.
The Brijuni Islands are a must-see for that reason. They were once President Tito’s private property with a large zoo, over 200 dinosaur footprints and a never-ending stream of international guests, including heads of state and Hollywood film stars.
Located near the Brijuni is the largest city of the Istria region, Pula, best-known for the beautiful Roman architecture and tranquil countryside surrounding it, as well as for its winemaking and fishing traditions.
Whether you’re visiting Pula or other towns like Pazin, Porec or Opatija, make sure to visit local restaurants and try Italian-influenced dishes with famous Istrian peppers, truffles and seafood. Finish your meal with grappa or a glass of sweet wine - the best comes from the Kalavojna region.
Istria is a diverse region and Booking.com offers equally diverse properties. From boutique hotels to comfortable apartments, you have a range of nearly 600 properties to choose from.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 1,905 reviewsThis resort was absolutely fantastic, with an incredible level of cleanliness and maintenance. The lawns and sidewalks were well-kept, and the beach was spotless, with no litter in sight. The apartment itself was well-maintained and regularly cleaned, and the functioning air conditioning added to the comfort of the stay. The presence of a coffee machine and an electric stove made it convenient to prepare meals in the apartment. The resort's amenities were perfect for families, with a pool that included entertaining activities and slides for the children. The beach, although pebbly, provided a nice escape from the heat thanks to the abundance of trees offering shade. It was also conveniently close to the apartment, just around 200 meters away. The dining experience at the resort was outstanding, with a wide variety of delicious treats available. Despite the large number of guests, the food was plentiful, and the staff managed the queues efficiently. The service provided by the staff was both friendly and professional, adding to the overall positive experience. In conclusion, this resort is a superb destination for a vacation, offering exceptional cleanliness, great amenities, and delectable dining options. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a fantastic and enjoyable getaway.Guest review byWojciechPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 4,100 reviewsIt goes without saying that the hotel, view, interior and surroundings were gorgeous. What really surprised me it that this hotel is really committed to reducing plastic waste. The three days we spent here were completely plastic-free. The very high-end bathroom cosmetic was in aluminium tubes. There were no plastic bags inside the bins. The water bottles (replaced daily) were glass etc. Honestly, I loved it!Guest review bySylviaBelgium
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 6.4Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 2,166 reviewsOn booking we didn't realise it was a holiday camp style resort. But we thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay and wish we would have had more time to stay longer. Also the buffet restaurant is great Vue for money or you can go shopping to the supermarket and the on site greengrocer. We will definitely be back.Guest review byStuartUnited Kingdom

Pula is a lovely, surprising destination.
Pula is a lovely, surprising destination. A working port that also has a stunning coastline. The old town is like a mini Rome complete with an intact roman arena. People are friendly and the small city has a nice cosmopolitan feel. Public transport is easy to use and has an extensive network. Destined to become more popular, so go see it now!Guest review byskids64United Kingdom - 10.0
Great place with old narrow streets.
Great place with old narrow streets. We enjoyed them during the first day, the second day we took a half day boat (Red Island, Lin Fjord, Pirates Cave, Music, wine, delicious fish) and right after we left the boat, we rent electric scooters to go through the entire Punta Corrente and the next 10km. forests and beaches (two hours rent was enough). A dinner at the Graciano place with a view to the old town was the perfect finish of the day.Guest review byBudinov - 10.0

The town of Umag has a charming coastal feel particularly at the historic centre. There are plenty of food options, lovely sunsets and a motorised 'train' to transport people from their resorts and hotels to the town for only 4€. Prices overall are very reasonable compared to other European destinations.Guest review byVincentUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Very busy town very clearly oriented to beach tourists, little to no historical or scenic attractions. Traffic is a nightmare in the mornings and evenings. A few traffic lights at pedestrian crossings would probably improve flow overall.Guest review byAlexanderSweden - 8.0

Vrsar was charming and small, much more welcoming than over-crowded Rovinj. We got a nice welcome and great tips from our host and felt a much more local-friendly vibe. Services were good quality and there were fewer tourist traps than in Rovinj. Overall a very cosy, relaxing experience, I wish we could have stayed longer.Guest review byVeraHungary - 10.0
Small, not so crowded village on the Istrian coast.
Small, not so crowded village on the Istrian coast. The beach stretches the whole length of the village. It's located close to Pula (10 mins by car ) and Rovinj ( 25 mins by car ), and has direct access to highway. The ships to Brioni national Park leave from Fazana so that is also a bonus. The location is great for anyone who wants to enjoy Istrian villages without to many people. In the evening, when all the tourists from National park leave, the village really becomes peaceful and tranquil. We've came 4 times till now. Hoping to come again soonGuest review byVukSerbia - 6.0

The Kamenjak park is fantastic and although in august it was really full of people, we could find a nice place where to swim without too many people. We went around with the bike and in general we could follow paths where car were not allowed, otherwise it was a bit annoying because there were a lot of cars. We ate at the Safari bar, it was full of people but they are very well organized and the food is good and reasonable priced. Probably, the best would be to go in June or September when there are less people. It would be nice if car were not allowed or at least if there was a maximum number allowed.Guest review byValentinaItaly
