Budapest is a historic city with beautiful architecture and great diversity. There is always an activity to do or a place to visit. The ruin bars (i.e. Szimpla) are a must go to, and sites like Buda Castle, Margrit Island and Fisherman's Bastion are gorgeous. The city situates so many cultures, which means there's a wide range of international foods and people. Be sure to try local Peksegs and cafes, with a quick google search you can find them all around with a variety of pastries, desserts and coffees. Feel free to explore too, there's a few underground hidden gems, however, it's safer to look at reviews online first as some of the places are tourist traps. Also, it's good to know a bit of Hungarian, but most people speak English. It's a lively city, but remember to respect the locals, they are constantly accommodating tourists, so that can be overwhelming. We loved Budapest! Would visit again. It's clean, safe and has an olde world charm. It's not as hectic and busy like some of the other cities that are just over-run with tourists. Everything is well organised. Even the taxi service from the airport is exceptionally efficient. Budapest surprised and delighted us! Great restaurants and coffee shops!
