The room was nice and the staff were polite. We enjoyed the pool, plenty of sunbeds. The location is perfect, right on the Tagore promenade. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food also, apart from international "standard" hotel food there were proper Hungarian dishes e.g. "borsófőzelék" and "túrós csusza" that tasted homemade and delicious, so all credits to the chefs. I found service in Balatonfüred uneven. The low point was restaurant Il Lago at the lakefront: despite looking inviting, the service felt dismissive and the prices were high for what we received. Veszprem is a small city, with some very impressive architecture, and interesting history. Also a nice place to just explore . The area along the riverside which passes the bottom entrance to the zoo then reaches a really nice park is a favoured walk for us . The centre has a good selection of restaurants catering to a variety of tastes and budgets . One thing to be aware of is that lunch is the Hungarian main meal of the day , therefore we have a couple of times tried to get a meal a bit later on the evening , depending on the time of year or day of the week that has sometimes been hard to find . Getting around , we can walk anywhere it’s a compact city . We generally get a lift from family to and from Station, after that we walk , if your fairly fit and can walk for about an hour I think you won’t need public transport but it is available if required . The old city centre is a 1000 years old, so it might worth a few walks :) The rest of the it is like any other socialist city. There are some pretty good restaurants around, worth a try, especially when they have traditional dishes. The town is small and quiet-ish.
The town is small and quiet-ish. There are some nice hikes worth taking, especially at sunset. (check the Guard Tower Area and the ) Not sure if it's all year round, but in September many of the restaurants and terraces were closing at 18:00 local time. You can take the long route north to get to Tihany, but the ferry is faster and not that expensive (in 2023 about 10 EUR for 1 car + 1 person).Guest review byClaudiuRomania
