- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 145 reviewsOur cabin was the heaven we were hoping to find in Iceland. All the way up north, just next to Akureyri, the most northern big town in Iceland, yet far enough from it to enjoy the peace and quiet nature and the fjord. In the mornings we were woken up to the endless whiteness coming from the snow and the ice in the valley visible from our cabin. We enjoyed cooking in the shared kitchen in the main house, having the morning coffee in the hot tub outside on -15, and then taking off to our day trips anywhere. The proximity to Akureyri allowed us to enjoy some northern city vibes too, with the possibility to have drinks or a meal in one of the gorgeous places there! The slopes were also very close, just a short 10-12 drive from our cabin. The highlight was the nighttime: we were blessed to have the Aurora Borealis almost every night, and our stay was perfect for it: almost no light pollution at all, an outdoor hot tub that allowed us to enjoy the lights soaked in hot water with some drinks, silence everywhere, just wonderful and out of this world experience! We loved also our hosts, they were amazing and always available, thank you Andrea and Christian with your family, for everything! Highly recommend this place for a northern paradise vacation!Guest review bySrgjanBelgium
- From US$313.86 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 364 reviewsWhen you get to the Hafdals Hotel you will be impressed by the view and then you’ll realise that you get to enjoy this view every single second during your stay (well not every second, the bathroom has no view towards Akureyri but this is no fault of the hotel). Speaking of the room it is quite spacious and the shower has some nice water pressure. The complete hotel facility was clean and well managed! The breakfast buffet is adequate, there is a good amount of choice and the food and drink is of high quality. The bed is comfortable and the provided pillow lead to some restfull sleep.Guest review byAndréSwitzerland
- From US$213.59 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 2,400 reviewsWhat a wonderful hotel. It's family run, and the proprietor Hildur is amazing! It has homely and cozy properties, much like a boutique guesthouse despite it's size. Great breakfast, bar at the lobby with some extremely friendly staff, a selection of hot tubs outside in the forest, and a nice lounge. I didn't want to leave at all, but rather just move in permanently!Guest review byJohanNetherlands
- From US$237.56 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,006 reviewsMy room was very nice and comfortable. Hotel was clean and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and the botanical gardens. The food at the restaurant was very good. I would like to mention that the staff were very helpful. Akureyri is a nice place to visit and you can take a day trip to Grimsey Island.Guest review byGinaUnited States
- From US$293.51 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 569 reviewsThe apartment is well located - a few steps away from a parking lot, beside several restaurants and a very good cafe. It's in the city centre of Akureyri. The place is modern and is quite spacious. As a side comment, the hallway towards the apartments is very cozy.Guest review byCamilleFrance

I go there many times per year, sometimes for errands, sometimes for days or weekends off. It's cute, it's cosy, wonderful cafeterias (and bakeries with great cafeterias), great restaurants, I love it. It's also very walkable if one is on vacation in town center.Guest review byHeimisdóttirIceland - 10.0

I was travelling for business, but was very pleasantly surprised by Akureyri - a very nice town with good facilities, great resturants and bars, and everything within walking distance. There seemed to be a lot of things to do for tourists, but I was working so couldn't take advantage of them this time. Very picturesque location at the bottom of a Fjord, much nicer location than Rekjavik. It's a bit of a pain to get to from Rekjavik area (flight by small plane, or 5 hr drive) but well worth it once you're there.Guest review byDouglasUnited Kingdom - 10.0

In our opinion as a family with found Akureyri to be a more enjoyable city and atmosphere than Reykjavík. Has a very positive vibe and the whale watching was an experience of a lifetime. I would recommend at least two days probably three if you are doing a tour of Iceland. Potentially I would recommend flying here and driving clockwise on route one to Reykjavík.Guest review byXenstone
