The hotel is made special by it's owners - the Defranceschi-Steiner family - who actively manage the hotel and participate in the daily operations - at the reception, in the restaurant, etc. The breakfast is superb, with an unusually large choice of breads, cheeses, vegetables, porridges, spreads, jams, etc. to choose from. The restaurant (for dinners) has a wide range of delicious fares to choose from. The two pools - one on the side of the mountain in the level of the 5th floor with a spectacular view, and another in the ground floor - are a delight, as well as the spacious and well-kept rooms. There are several nice walks/hiking paths available right from the hotel or from nearby, including also the famous Tappeinerweg. There is a lot to do in Merano, rain or shine. Of course, there are the local & famous walkways, the mountain hikes, bike trails, and the Dolomites are nearby. A lovely little place with great amenities and activities for all. It is best known for it's hiking/walking paths, but it is also a bit of a mecca for cyclists. It's one of those villages that "gets" to you.
It's one of those villages that "gets" to you. The village itself has very narrow streets (thankfully, many are one way only as some only barely fit one car) but the surrounding area offers plenty of hiking trails and the local waterfall, which is rather impressive. Plus this is one of THE wine and fruit growing regions in Southern Tyrol so there are plenty of locally grown foods available and I highly recommend stopping at the many stalls in the area that sell those products.Guest review byArBe01157New Zealand - 10.0
