Even in the so-called shoulder season Venice is mobbed with tourists. Our first hours in and near San Marco square were very off-putting. BUT moving beyond San Marco the crowds really thin out. And when the experts say just walk, get lost and discover the Venice of the locals--they know what they're talking about. We always dined in smaller restaurants on small squares or narrow passages; they were busy with locals and tourists but offered quiet and a more personal touch. We found the opulence of the Doge Palace so over the top as to be off-putting. And be forewarned: once you start the tour there's no going back: and it's a long tour.Guest review byJohn - 10.0
Lovely city to walk around.
Lovely city to walk around. You don't need more than 2 full days. We found out that most of the main city attractions are closed on Mondays so avoid those days if you only have one day in Verona. Loved the city and would recommend a visit.Guest review byEmmaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Although I spent most of my time in Venice, I enjoyed the casual walkable surroundings. Good coffee shops and restaurants close by. The bus into Venice took 10 minutes and ran often. The train station was also close by. Staying in Mestre was certainly less hectic than staying in Venice so it was quite enjoyable.Guest review byronUnited States - 10.0

College town with nice squares, historic buildings, museums and university without all the tourists. No big tourist groups or buses. Felt more like a real livable city with a local community. Prices for food and drinks were very reasonable relative to the more popular tourist locations.Guest review byDR Ron GUnited States - 8.0
Peschiera is a lively town at the edge of Lake Garda.
Peschiera is a lively town at the edge of Lake Garda. It has lots of shops, bars and restaurants. It offers easy access to boat trips, walks and cycle-paths, as well as other lakeside towns. It is ideal for trips further afield as the express trains stop here, allowing day-trip access to Brescia, Verona, Milan and VeniceGuest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 10.0

just behind the hotel is a strip where all the bars, shops , restaurants are located. they all appeared to be of a very high standard. great beer options. food is made to a very good standard. We went into John Martins , Mary's , Route 66 and theB. live music venue. drink and food prices reasonable. the beach is sunbeds cheek by jowl, but the hotel alocates sunbeds. very safe beach and warm meditteranian sea. use insect bite cream though due to the lagoon location.Guest review bymartinUnited Kingdom - 8.0

It's not the cheapest town in the area, and not every place has the same high standards. Lots of Olympic construction going on, both in town and all around, so watch out for delays and possible noise. But you'll get over that once you smell the air and see the views. This is the Alsager then someGuest review byTimUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Really enjoyed staying in Bardolino.
Really enjoyed staying in Bardolino. Plenty of shops and spoilt for choice when it came to restaurants. It’s quite busy even late September and I wouldn’t want to go during the peak summer months for this reason but also the heat.Guest review byJeannetteUnited Kingdom - 2.0
Marghera is an ugly, industrial port city close to Venice.
Marghera is an ugly, industrial port city close to Venice. Nobody travels to that region to see Marghera, obviously Venice is the attraction. Our cruise was departing and returning to Marghera. This is why we stayed there.Guest review byBolshoi_HuiBritish Virgin Islands - 10.0

Old town is very beautiful. Exceeded my expectation. Nice restaurants and coffee shops. The purpose of our travel was to visit some proseco wineries and Treviso is located in less of an hour from the area. Same distance to Venice, as well.Guest review byirinaRomania
