Inspiration for Artist and Architect

The Veneto offers relaxation and recreation in world-famous cities and wonderful landscapes. Words don’t do justice to its ever-serene capital Venice, a captivating maze of canals and monuments. Cheap hotels in Venice are scarce, but Mestre across the lagoon offers more budget options.

Cheap flights to Venice land in Treviso, a little version of that fabled city. Also centred on canals is beautiful Chioggia, home to several Veneto hotels on the beach. Yet more are in Caorle, near its distinctive 11th-century bell tower and waterfront church. Another family-friendly Veneto resort with a long beach is Lido di Jesolo.

In studenty Padua, Giotto’s 14th-century frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel are bursting with colour. The majestic Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza was designed by Palladio, the prolific architect whose villas and churches cover the Veneto. Romantic Verona inspired Romeo and Juliet and has an incredibly well-preserved Roman arena hosting summer opera.

The staff was very polite, thanks a lot to the nightguad that helped us take in the accomodation after midnight.     Arrived late Sunday night, too late for room service, was offered lasagna to get us by. Felt like we were family being offered a meal! Arrive late Sunday night, luggage didn’t make it until Thursday morning. Would not have received luggage at all if it were not for the heroic efforts by GM Vito and his staff. They were fantastic!

    Great to see St. Mark's Square at various times.

    Great to see St. Mark's Square at various times. We went to Vespers in the evening and Mass in the morning. Along with listening to Rick Steves audio this gave us a nice experience with the Basillica. Also to take the Grand Canal several times (us with RS). Our skip the line and audio guide visit to Doge's Palace gave a nice overview of history....

    It's a great location if you have a car. Staying on the T1 tram line was an easy and quick way of travelling into Venice with the service running frequently. Access to a local cafe, butcher and deli. Felt like we were part of the community.

    just behind the hotel is a strip where all the bars,shops , restaurants are located. they all appeared to be of a very high standard. great beer options. food is made to a very good standard. We went into John Martins , Mary's , Route 66 and theB. live music venue. drink and food prices reasonable. the beach is sunbeds cheek by jowl, but the hotel alocates sunbeds. very safe beach and warm meditteranian sea. use insect bite cream though due to the lagoon location.

    Peschiera is a lively town at the edge of Lake Garda. It has lots of shops, bars and restaurants. It offers easy access to boat trips, walks and cycle-paths, as well as other lakeside towns. It is ideal for trips further afield as the express trains stop here, allowing day-trip access to Brescia, Verona, Milan and Venice

    It's not the cheapest town in the area, and not every place has the same high standards. Lots of Olympic construction going on, both in town and all around, so watch out for delays and possible noise. But you'll get over that once you smell the air and see the views.     Marghera is an ugly, industrial port city close to Venice.

    Marghera is an ugly, industrial port city close to Venice. Nobody travels to that region to see Marghera, obviously Venice is the attraction. Our cruise was departing and returning to Marghera. This is why we stayed there.

    Really enjoyed staying in Bardolino.

    Really enjoyed staying in Bardolino. Plenty of shops and spoilt for choice when it came to restaurants. It’s quite busy even late September and I wouldn’t want to go during the peak summer months for this reason but also the heat.
