The receptionist who checked us in was so friendly, and the hotel is super clean, had a little tub in the shower, beds were comfy for me, pillows were not bad I still had a good sleep. I usually wear an earplug to sleep but the two nights we stayed I never wear them cus the location, altho it's in between odori and susukino, it was sooo quite.

Toilet: Very clean, Room: Twin room although smaller BUILT-UP, but we are satisfied with the soundproof wall (can't hear flushing noise frm next door). Heater and humidifier provided.

This holiday at the Setsu was a birthday present for my wife, who works hard in the medical field. We were not disappointed and in fact pleasantly surprised at this new hotel in Hirafu. The hotel service was outstanding and the room was beautifully designed with numerous extra appliances (washing machine, dishwasher) that my wife loved. This hotel challenges the five-star Park Hyatt in quality of stay, yet charges half the rates of that top-ranked hotel. The staff kindly wrote a a personal birthday card for her, and a birthday cake waiting in the refrigerator. We were touched by the personal service. Later I met the hotel manager, Ms. Tomata, to express my appreciation. Finally, the private onsen, public onsen, yoga classes and workout gym were a luxury bonus that we enjoyed.

I also encountered a slight problem which I was unable to call the third party parking company nearby the Lawson. The staff used his phone directly and make calls to the parking company.     Most interesting places like Furano, Daisetsuzan and noboribetsu are not close to Sapporo even with self-drive trips. So don’t base your self in Sapporo as it is far from its own airport anyway. Stay in Sapporo if you want to explore its surrounding areas.

    We did glass blowing at a great place called Il Ponte - made a glass each to take home! Also spent an afternoon Kayaking nearby at Shioya beach with Max at Sunnyside Up -well worth doing with amazing scenery and even a swim at a beach! Also found a great little place for dinner that locals go to called Summi's Grill in a little back alley near the Sun arcade. Met a couple of locals who go there every day!

    Very beautiful and quaint little town.

    Very beautiful and quaint little town. Loved the hot foot and hand spas for the public. Views of the lake were amazing and the onsen with the cost of our room was worth it. Better to stay since it is much more beautiful than at Rusutsu Resort area and not that far to go snowboarding.

    For a two day trip to Noboribetsu, we enjoyed the hiking, scenery, and shopping near our hotel. The natural hot springs there are also quite unique - semi translucent in appearance. We really enjoyed soaking in it.

    Lake Utonai is worth a quick stop in any season. I enjoyed meals at Amiga-Amigas and Toncini’s; both nice Italian restaurants. Upopoy Ainu Museum is excellent. Tomakomai is not a major tourist spot but it is a pleasant place to spend a day or two.

Nestled near the base of Mount Yōtei, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking year-round — we are admiring snow-covered peaks. A unique highlight is Mishima’s Shibazakura Garden, where vibrant pink moss phlox blooms in spring with Mount Yōtei as a stunning backdrop. We drive around the mountain to get perfect views. As a group of food lovers will enjoy exploring local eateries offering everything from hearty ramen to Kutchan’s famous jaga-imo (potatoes).     Very good stay as staff members were attentive and caring. They remember client preferences and nothing seemed too much trouble. Rooms were very clean and tidy. We would recommend this ryokan to many. The only drawback was that dinner portions were very small and we are used to ryokans serving an abundant meal in the evening. Breakfast was OK but not outstanding. So, the point of focus is on food. Service was brilliant. Every single staff member we came across did really well, were friendly and very, very polite.

    I find most customers are local people.

    I find most customers are local people. The environment is quiet. While I drive around the area, I don't see many cars and people. Most shop close around 7 or 8pm. So it is advisable to have dinner before 7pm.

    It's a must-see spot in Hokkaido.

    It's a must-see spot in Hokkaido. The new Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park is worth a visit, and you should plan to spend 3-5 hours there learning about the rich Ainu culture. Gourmets will also enjoy the famous Shiraoi beef.
