Amazing hotel. Not a cheap one, but it is definitelly worth the money. We definitelly recommend to take a room with a view, seeing mountains in the morning was wonderful. We didn't have a ryokan-type room but were still amazed by the quiality of everything - cleanliness, design, etc. Our room had a capsule coffee machine, a set for drinking tea, hair brushes, hair pins and other small things that added a pinch of comfort to our stay. The hotel also provides guests with Japanese-style clothing: a set of a "shirt" and pants, and a yukata. You can walk in it everywhere in the hotel which was very nice. The hotel has public onsens on two floors, both have open-air baths. The staff is very understanding and would help with the rules of visiting. You can also book private onsens that turned out to be not very expensive. Sometimes the hotel holds special events. We managed to visit stargazing and saw Jupiter through a telescope while eating sweet potatos! The hotel provides a bus that regularly travels through the Arima village. You can also call the hotel to pick you up. The village itself is very beautiful. There is a ropeway to the nearby mountain. I heard you can also hike to the summit.

I loved this hotel. I was curious about the German name, but I think it’s a vestige of a time when Kobe had a lot of European traders living there. The furnishings are all very old-Europe. My room had an upholstered chair with an ottoman as well as a desk with cabriole legs. The bathroom, however, was very sleek and modern, and a good bit bigger than most Japanese hotel bathrooms. The breakfast choices are amazing. Someone will even make you an omelet. Best croissant outside of France. It’s an easy walk from the old train station, and near many very good restaurants.

We got a good deal while coming off season and wanted to experience an onsen resort while visiting Japan. The meals were very good traditional Japanese food. The onsens were very nice and not busy, and the rooms were traditional and spacious. The town this hotel is in doesn’t have a lot going on so expect to spend your time in the room/onsen. We did walk down the road to a shrine on the beach, then walked back to the hotel along the beach, hoping to catch the sunset. Unfortunately, it was a hazy day and we didn't get a great sunset, but it was a very nice walk back!

Great service and room. We booked an extra night due to how comfortable and central it is to many restaurants, the train station, and other attractions. They were prompt and already knew of the extra night and offered us to stay in the same room without any extra charges, but still cleaned everything. I recommend!

After staying in Kyoto, it was refreshing to stay in a smaller, quieter city for a couple of days. Himeji, had ample malls and restaurants to satisfy the needs of all tourists and yet has a nice small city feel. We saw the castle in the afternoon, and didn't encounter large crowds. The Koko-en Garden was relatively quiet when we saw it in the morning.

Kinosaki onsen is a charming small town. Most of the tourists were Japanese who come to the hot springs. Most people are dressed in traditional yukatas and walk around the town in them and wooden sandals. We also took a short train ride to Takeno Beach a beautiful beach on the sea of Japan.

I visited the theme park Nijigen No Morii with Naruto and Dragonquest Island and both was amazing. Ill definitely come Back to the Park. It's a bit tricky to get around with the local (limited) buses as there run only about once every hour so a rental car ist the better option. From Iwaya Port theres a Shuttle bus to Nijigen No Morii and the hello Kitty sites, it's free and stops on a couple of sites along the route. The Shuttle operates from 10am to 9pm.

Amagasaki is a great 'real' town so close to Osaka, but with its own character. We saw a diverse mix of people from all walks of life. Working class, business people, skateboarders, old people playing ukelele in the park. There is a nice old shopping street which is not to be missed. Some good old 'Showa' era coffee shops. We didn't get to do half the things we planned. Will be back!

Located in Hyogo Prefecture along the Seto Inland Sea,...

Located in Hyogo Prefecture along the Seto Inland Sea, Akashi is a charming coastal city known for its outstanding seafood and relaxed atmosphere. While it may not be as famous as nearby Kobe or Osaka, Akashi offers a deliciously authentic experience that’s hard to beat. One of the city’s signature dishes is Akashiyaki—soft, egg-rich dumplings filled with tender octopus. Unlike Osaka’s takoyaki, Akashiyaki is gently dipped in warm dashi broth, highlighting the freshness of the seafood. Akashi is especially known for its high-quality octopus (madako). Thanks to the area’s fast tidal currents, the octopus here grows firm and flavorful, making it a prized ingredient across Japan. Local fish markets also showcase an incredible selection of fresh anago (conger eel) and Akashi-dai (sea bream), straight from the surrounding waters. Whether you enjoy sushi, grilled fish, or something uniquely local, Akashi will leave you more than satisfied. It’s the perfect spot for travelers who want to explore Japan’s culinary diversity beyond the big cities. Discover Akashi—where the sea meets tradition, and every bite tells a story.

Kobe is known for Kobe Beef.

Kobe is known for Kobe Beef. Unfortunately this highly priced wagyu is exported to 5 star hotels, top restaurants in Kyoto and Tokyo, or overseas. Sad that many of the wagyu restaurants are not serving the famed high-end Kobe wagyu. It is busy metropolis, but less crowded than nearby Osaka. As the city is built on hills and mountains, the local hiking culture and sudden panoramic views are both delights. There is not much in terms of local culture or cuisine, besides some western influence as shown in the architecture of few buildings and an abundance of pâtissiers.
