All the staff speak English very well and are very kind and friendly. They provide good information and city details. The decoration with otters is very fun. The room is not very big and some facilities may need a renovation, but for one person and one night it is fine. You can take a free bicycle that it's very convenient to reach the castle and the garden. Although there is no breakfast, they offer you some pastries and nikuman that are very good. But what impressed me the most is how they helped me when I had to go to the ambulance one night after arrival at the hotel because of a thrombosis. They brought me all my luggage that I had left unpacked in my room because I was not expecting being hospitalised. They even reimbursed me the next night. It isn’t a typical tourist destination from my understanding but the gardens by night are absolutely stunning. The casual is also beautiful and I’m sad to have missed the pottery class. Food and bars also exceptional - everybody is particularly friendly, and perhaps less used to accommodating tourists. Coffee: Empire coffee roasters. Friendly service and outstanding coffee. Only spent one day at the end of our trip which was enough to basically shop and wander the historical area which I think is the main attraction anyway. Beautiful, scenic, clean, historic. And we loved Yoshii Ryokan in the heart of it all. Definitely worth a visit.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We stayed here rather than on Naoshima island and took the short ferry across to the island. When we planned our trip, I had not factored in that many of the museums on the island were closed on a Monday and that some had to be booked for the Sunday. The benefit is that the onsen next to the Uno hotel is wonderful. You can be outside in one of the outside baths and at night gaze at the stars. We had a massage and a Japanese meal in the onsen and ambled happily back to the hotel. We delayed our planned departure to go the next morning after we had checked out of the hotel. We did not really explore the town itself but had a lovely meal in a restaurant close to the ferry building, overlooking the park and shopped in the big stores near the station.Guest review byBUnited Kingdom - 8.0

It’s a nice ryokan - close to the harbour and the train station. No staff - but it suits me well. Feels like my own apartment. Clean, simple but nice and cozy. They cleaned the room every day - I didn’t even expected this… if I ever come back to Tamano a m- and I hope I will because of the art islands around and the beautiful Onsen in Tamano - I will certainly try to stay in this ryokan againGuest review byNoaIsrael - 8.0
We chose Okayama as a base for trips in central Japan...
We chose Okayama as a base for trips in central Japan because it is a stop on the shinkensen line. We bought a 7 day Sanyo-Sanin pass for about $150 and took day trips to Hiroshima, Kyoto, Naoshima (art island), Onomichi, Inujima, and Takahachi. Okayama itself is a charming modern city. Just about everyone rides a bike. Because it is not a tourist hub prices very reasonable. $500 for a week in a nice hotel with free breakfast, adult happy hour drinks at night, and an onsen. Restaurants were very reasonable. $15 will get you all you can eat and drink at a sushi restaurant. $10 for the best tonkatsu dinner outside of Tokyo. Although the city was flattened during WWII, some nice attractions remain. The Korakuen gardens are beautiful and overlook the Okayama castle. We timed our trip to co inside with the festival of lights and so pleased we got to experience the first night of the light festival before we moved on.
