Our family group stayed here as part of our multi-day Shimanami bike tour. This is a little off the recommended bike path and involves a couple of steep mouintain climbs but well worth the effort in our opinion. The beach location is wonderful and suitable for pleasant walks. The onsen baths are lovely, overlooking the ocean so you can soak in the various tubs and enjoy the views. The meals are excellent with many interesting ingredients and preparations. The staff both friendly and helpful. On the morning of our departure, it started to rain and the proprietress went to significant effort to bundle both our bike rack baggage and our bodies in plastic to help protect us from the wet. Her kindness was very much appreciated. This was a memorable part of our bike tour. Highly recommended.

Sakaide Grand Hotel is a large hotel near the harbour area of Sakaide. The hotel - as well as most of Sakaide itself - has a bit of Showa-romance felling. The rooms are largend the breakfast is great! There is a public bath on the third floor, but upon arriving you may be given a ticket for the nearby large public bath, where most of the towns people seem to go in the evening.

The check-in went smoothly and the front desk service was very good. The room is very clean and tidy. On the third floor, there are washing machines, dryers, vending machines, and ice makers.

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.

We were there for two days, which felt a bit short. The castle is a must-see, if only for the view from the top, of the city with mountains in the background. The Sunday Market is also a must, if you're there on the weekend. The small Science Museum near the castle was fun and very hands on, mainly for kids but also a nice detour for adults. We also found a Back to the Future DeLorean in the Automobile Museum, which was a nice surprise. Katsuo (bonito) is famous in Kochi, it's flame cooked a little on the outside but still raw on the inside and pretty tasty.
