- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very good - What previous guests thought, 683 reviewsWe had a room with private onsen on the balcony. We enjoyed using it at night. The hotel's location is so close to nature, we could hear what sounded like deer rustling through the woods behind the property. The location is relatively remote, in Okunikko (which needs a car/bus from the main Nikko area). We arrived by bus and then walked about 10 minutes from the main road to the hotel's entrance. For us, this remoteness was great. The room was very large. The best thing for us was the outside private onsen, with a great view of the woods and Lake Chujenzi behind it. Please see attached photo. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. They both felt like very luxury experiences. They were traditional Japanese meals (many small dishes) and were delicious. The restaurant staff were very friendly and could explain the menu to us in English. The service was generally very good. The hotel offered free drinks when we arrived to check in, including beer (you can help yourself). This was great, because we spent the morning/early afternoon exploring all the various temples etc in Nikko. The shared onsen were great. There were three for the men (and three for women too, I believe) of various sizes. The largest was indoor and the other two were outdoor. I especially enjoyed the outdoor onsen, listening to the birds whilst the morning light filtered through the maple trees. This was once of our favourite experiences of our Japan holiday. The next time I visit Japan, I would like to visit Nikko again and I would like to stay at this same hotel.Guest review byWilliamUnited Kingdom
- From US$181.28 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.0Good - What previous guests thought, 781 reviewsEverything was amazing! To start, the staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. The room was lovely and cosy with a beautiful river view as promised (during snow season this was especially impressive). It was nice to walk around the facilities comfortably in the provided yukata (Japanese loungewear). The included dinner and breakfast were delicious, nutritious, and generous (both were all-you-can-eat buffet style). Booking for the private onsen and other activities was easy from the front desk. The private onsen was incredible and just a short walk from the hotel. It's set in individual huts where two of the walls can be fully opened to the outside, in case you want the outdoor onsen experience. Late night table tennis back at the hotel was fun! The public onsen (within the hotel building) also had a beautiful view. Don't worry about setting up your futon bedding - the staff will have that ready for you when you come back from dinner :) It's worth arriving early (at check-in time) and taking advantage of all that this hotel has to offer.Guest review byChristineAustralia

- From US$600.54 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 664 reviewsAbsolutely exceptional. The history almost jumps at you through the walls. The staff were kind and attentive. Apparently Japanese people come here just to take photos and tours of the hotel. Everything was beautiful, elegant, and definitely one of the highlights of our trip to nikko The snow made everything even more magical.Guest review byguyIsrael
- From US$120.11 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 1,136 reviewsThe food options are great! The facility is old, and I don't really use the hotspring. But you won't regret if you came to enjoy the view, and the buffet style dinner and breakfast! The room is also huge and you can see the river from the balcony. There's also a store beside the hotel but it's not 24/7.Guest review byVanessaPhilippines

- From US$705.63 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 845 reviewsPerfect reason to spend the night in Nikko. Hotel is just a few minutes walk from the temples. And the town is small enough to visit on foot. Onsen is wonderful, even get your own kimono to wear. After a day of sightseeing, onsen is exactly what you need.Guest review byHelenSpain

Touristy, somewhat charmless town that is nevertheless worth it for the magnificent shrines (Shinto, and the resting places of the first and third shoguns) and temples (Buddhist) and the museum (splurge on the museum! Seriously). Many people go to see these buildings + the red bridge (which is merely fine - short and not really noteworthy), but don't venture to the outskirts of Nikko to take in the other sites (Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Botanical Garden, Tamozawa Imperial Villa and much more impressive Nikko Dainichi Bridge).Guest review byChristopherUnited States - 10.0
We liked the room it was quite spacious.
We liked the room it was quite spacious. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was an easy bus ride from the main station and there were many restaurants nearby. The breakfast offered a lot options both Japanese and Western. The staff were very helpful finding some bus information and lending us umbrellas and adaptors.Guest review bySusanAustralia - 6.0
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people.
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people. The Emperor has a summer house here as it tends to be cooler in summer. It’s little known by westerners and therefore is not catered to westerners. Parts of Nasu are very beautiful and other parts are set up for families - eg the zoo and the Dairy farm. There are some lovely restaurants and places to visit here but you really need a car to do it.Guest review byDeltaBegaAustralia - 8.0
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs.
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs. It has the Shiobara hot spring village, which has a rich spring quality and has been loved by royalty and literary masters. You can enjoy the traditional hot springs surrounded by nature in spite of the easy access from Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen, which is just an hour away from Tokyo. Each hot spring in the city is different in scale and taste, but it is an adult resort where you can spend your luxurious time by soaking in the hot spring to your heart’s content.Guest review byBestUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The Nasu Kaido is a famous and really scenic road that goes from the lowlands of Nasu town all the way up to the Nasu mountains, and it's beautiful to drive up - if you have a car. The road is a two lane highway that (in Summer) is very busy and not intended for bicycle or pedestrian use when you get to the uphill portions of the road, so be sure to use a vehicle or public transportation if you want to go further up it. The public transportation options are present - you can take the Shinkansen to NasuShiobara Station, then take the bus to the Nasu Mountain Ropeway, then take the ropeway to the near top of one of the mountain peaks and hike from there. It's a good venture, though if you try it on the weekend, be sure to check when the last buses operate, or else you might have to take a taxi.Guest review byLeeUnited States - 10.0
