Safari we went out twice, the morning and evening. If we could have our time again, we would have done three in total. The team were very respectful of the animals, never getting too close and taking great pride in seeing them in their natural habitat. A HUGE shoutout to our tour guide Ashan who made our experience one that we will never forget. He is incredibly knowledgable, super passionate which made us even more excited, as well as knowing a lot about the bigger creatures he took much care and joy in the smaller ones too (side note, insane bird knowledge!). I even got a little photography tutorial, which meant that I could photograph the beautiful creatures with my new found skills. We stayed in the Villas which are airconditioned and well maintained. All the villas are a few steps to the pool and a few more steps to the ocean. We could hear the ocean from our room. We had a group of 11 family members across 4 rooms and it was a pleasure to stay in this quiet palm tree location (with a few monkeys) leading to a quant beachfront. The rooms were clean, plenty of clean sheets and towels and excellent value. The restaurant pricing was reasonable for a hotel and the neighbouring cafes and bars are good quality. We stayed in Sri Lanka for a total of 10 days in July and it was sunshine every day with hardly any rain. Don't believe the iphone weather app or the blogs. July is great. The sea at this time of year is not suitable for young kids but the hotel pool was an excellent substitution. We used this hotel as a base to go to Yalla, the turtle sanctuary (highly recommended) and exploring villages on Tuk Tuks. The room was spotless and offered all the amenities you could think of — towels, bathrobes, soaps, tea, coffee, water — literally everything you might need was there. The breakfast should be rated as “excellent” on Booking, not just “very good” — the variety was incredible! And everything we tasted was simply delicious. I’ll finish with a few words about the staff, although I could write a lot more — the staff is absolutely amazing. Whatever problem you may have, they will definitely help you. The hotel is located in the Yala Nature Reserve on the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel staff. The general manager of Colonel proved to be an amazing person. He gave us a real celebration in honor of our wedding anniversary. It was funny and unforgettable. The hotel itself is not new, but it has everything you need. The rooms are large and colorful. Tissamaharama is a fantastic base for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of southern Sri Lanka. It's perfectly located for Yala National Park safaris, offering easy access to incredible wildlife encounters. Beyond the safaris, the town itself has a calm, local vibe with beautiful lakes and ancient temples to discover. You'll find plenty of local restaurants and shops, making it easy to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan experiences. It definitely is an experience worth trying. The tree house has all the comforts you need but yet kept on the simple side. Don't expect much and you will get a lot. Nice food Bbq and big fire lit for you in the evening to give you a chance to relax and talk about your day activities. It was great to be left alone and the silence of the night. We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble.
