Echternach, if not the entire t of Luxembourg, is an underrated gem. Being English we barely heard a single country person and you are really missing out! If you love the outdoors I couldn't think of a better place to come. Public transport is entirely free and very easy to navigate with the brilliant app mobiliteit.lu. We went on trains, buses and trams entirely free the whole time. It is very easy to set off from Echternach on a bus then walk all the way back, or just do a loop then return back to base. The Mullerthal trail app again is really helpful to find out what walks are in each area - app.mullerthal.lu. But you could just walk directly from Echternach and our youth hostel. The Hostel was set on the lake. There was a climbing wall, bike hire, walks and swimming lakeside. A huge adventure playground with toilets, a Roman villa, a great restaurant - all within minutes. Two supermarkets, one close to the lake and the other in the town gave plentiful options for food. The town is very attractive and has a long pedestrian street with outstanding restaurants (if you love Sushi go to Wangs, it was out of this world). It's a simple hour trip from Luxembourg city so could be done in a day but that wouldn't do it justice. You could also get to Trier in Germany (amazing city!) in about 45 minutes if a city trip was your thing. You should go!Guest review byJulieUnited Kingdom - 8.0

My intended destination was Luxembourg city. I only stayed at Esch-sur-Alzette because it was the only accommodation I found within my budget at the time I was there. Luxembourg offers beautiful green parks and deep and dense green nature integrated around many parts of the city. It is well organised, reliable, and efficient. One very super comfortable and practical aspect of Luxembourg is the fee public transport including trams and trains! It was amazing. You just hop on and stop wherever you want in Luxembourg free of charge. And it works like clock work. You can plan and rely on it. However there is one thing I really did not like about Luxembourg. In Luxembourg I found more of a certain kind of people than I found even in Stockholm if you know what I mean! So as much as advanced, civilized and adorned with natural beauty Luxembourg is, the demography is spoiled with the invasion of a certain kind of people I hate even to look at.Guest review byNeilMalta - 10.0

Berdorf is my favorite go-to location if I wanna go on a hiking weekend. It's about a three hour drive from where I live, so very doable for a weekendtrip. The entire Echternach region in beautiful (check out the Mullerthal Trail), but the region around Berdorf is especially beautiful. The forests around Berdorf all have those typical rock formations with stairs and ladders, little chasms etc that really make it so much more interesting than a normal forest hike. I wasnt there long, an overnight stop with a morning walk into the town. The petrol prices were pretty reasonable and there was a decent supermaket and mini mall at the bottom of the town. If staying for a short break I would probably get a hotel in Luxembourg City, as although all transport in the country is free its stops at 2300. Mondorf-les-Bains is a charming town with over 5,000 inhabitants located near the Luxembourg Moselle River. Home to the only casino and the only spa and fitness center in the Grand Duchy, it benefits from all the advantages of a big city: -Everything close to home, -Easily accessible by public transport, -Many leisure and recreational opportunities, -Fascinating architecture and cultural heritage, -Many shops, A wide selection of hotels and restaurants. Big green parks, vineyards on the slopes, friendly people, beautiful lake with ducks and white swans. Interesting to find a small vine in front of most garages or front doors where we walked. Not many cars so it was easy to walk everywhere. Easy to get around as public transport is free and you just have to check the time table of the bus routes. The Peking Duck, fried rice and fried noodles are delicious at White Swan, the beef is mouth watering. The Italian restaurant on the left serves good Italian food. Luxembourg has so much to offer.
Luxembourg has so much to offer. Take advantage of the free transportation. You may have to rent a car to get to more remote locations; like Vianden Castle or Mullerthal.
