The old city inside Marrakesh is a very exciting and hectic place. To navigate through the thousands of vendors, you must have a phone with a maps program. The many markets are connected by a maze of narrow stone streets with motorcycles and people and donkeys carts. It was interesting for a day but a lot of the vendors sell the same products. There are also a lot of products from China like Rolex and Adidas. If you can, book a tour where you can watch the craftsman work, i.e., leather working or metal working stalls - it’s fascinating. Also book a tour to the Atlas Mountains. The hospitality and the gorgeous setting were my two favorite aspects of the Riad Jnane Imlil and the village of Imlil. The surroundings are majestic and the staff of the riad were so very warm. The food was delicious and convenient (breakfast was included, and you can purchase dinner and eat in the building). I was not feeling well from before I arrived in Imlil, and still it was a beautiful place to rest in. We had planned to do a full-day trek and have lunch with a Berber family in their home, but had to cancel due to my illness. Still, we walked around a bit in the village and that was so very pleasant. The riad had a pool and has beautiful terraces and balconies to enjoy the gorgeous views from. Very nice city and friendly people. Personally I prefer the quiet places. Unlikely Marrakesh, Safi is very quiet and nice city to discover and learn about in a week, you will be able to make friends easily and recognise the locals quicker. The old Berber villages are amazing to visit, they offer a great calm in contrast to the fast pace of Marrakesh or the late-night souks of FES.
