The most important for us, our dog was welcome ♥️
The location is just perfect for a stop on a road trip on the east coast.

The first city in the world 🌎 to see the sunrise and has beautiful beaches to swim.This city is family orientated and the lifestyle here is relaxed mode. The people here enjoy the hunting and diving/ fishing experience (kai gathering).Also alot of agricultural/ horticulture revolves here as well. There is also a lot of farming sheep & cattle here on the east coast and definitely comes with a beautiful coastline to drive and enjoy 💯👌 Highway 35... The hosts were incredibly busy, but took time to arrange another room for us. This is a very old hotel, with all the maintenance issues that you can expect. There is no meals service, so guests need to bring there own food and drink or get some from the very small village store. Not a lot to do in Hicks Bay itself, walk to old wharf is interesting. In the area there is the East Cape Lighthouse (lots of steps but worth it), most easterly point of New Zealand. Te Puia has nothing to offer. The only shop in town was closed. The hotel bar was closed, dining room and lounge were closed. No food or drink on offer. The hot springs The town is known for consisted of one tepid pool behind the hotel which was filthy and not even hot. All in all very disappointing stay. The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable, no issue there. And the bathrooms were clean and functional. This was more hostel like accommodation than hotel. Small room but clean & tidy apart from very dirty windows -a good clean & repaint required. Bathroom refurbished & great shower but once again windows the same as bedroom. Advertised pools were one pool which unfortunately was so extremely hot you could not get in !
