The Lake itself was huge which we hadn't expected.
The Lake itself was huge which we hadn't expected. There is a well-positioned walking track to take in more views of the lake and other areas of Taupo. Vibrant place. Was easily able to imagine the increase in vibrancy during the upcoming summer seasosn. Good shopping facilities.Guest review byLuisaAustralia - 10.0

Turangi is a beautiful, scenic location and the people are very welcoming and friendly. We were impressed by the service and choices at the Hydro Cafe, the Flytackle shop and the NZ Post shop. We also enjoyed the Pihanga Gallery showcasing local art and crafts and a delicious Italian meal at Valentinos. It was beautiful in late autumn and we'll visit again.Guest review byOdetteNew Zealand - 10.0
Cambridge is a beautiful town.
Cambridge is a beautiful town. Growing larger but retains its lovely main street with good angle parking and a roomy pull out lane. Love the many shops and good places to eat. Many side streets to explore and the lake is a beautiful place for a walk.Guest review byStoddard - 8.0

Whitianga is a lovely town and felt more relaxed than Whangamata but had all the facilities you would need. The coastline around the area is just ridiculously beautiful. Whitianga was a great base to explore from. I would happily go for another visit.Guest review byDebraAustralia - 8.0

The main point of our trip was to visit Hobbiton Movie Set. This is an amazing experience, our second trip. Have done both the lunch & dinner experience. Food, staff & experience rate a 10. Had a great meal at Sofra, food & staff were great. Breakfast at The Rich Coffee Cafe was nice and the staff were ok. Visited the I-Centre too and found the staff to be helpful.Guest review byVickiNew Zealand - 8.0

Town's friendliness. The town cat, Helen Clark.
Town's friendliness. The town cat, Helen Clark. The main hotel, pub with its history and well priced Aperol Spritz. The 2 restaurants we went to plus the fish and chip shop. The nearby secluded bays and beaches. The train up the hill.Guest review byCarlosNew Zealand - 10.0
My first trip was 45 years ago.
My first trip was 45 years ago. In comparison back then there was no boat ride. So that was a nice way of finishing the tour. It was summer back then so there were more glow worms. So best time would be in the warmer months. We’re allowed to take photos at the very end only. Would have been nice to have been able to take a few of the caves itself without a flash as memorabilia. Also with groups going through close together it was hard to hear what our guide was saying over other guide’s voices. “Cup of tea” (John) was an excellent guide and very humorous and knowledgeable.Guest review byLuisaAustralia - 10.0
