I lived in Louisville 40 years ago as a newlywed; my children were born there. But boy, has it changed! Downtown unrecognizable. Diversity! Food! Beautiful (well, not so much in the winter). A lot of stuff for kids to do, adults, too. You won't be bored. Florence is a busy place.
Florence is a busy place. We chose it because it was in between Creation Museum and Ark Encounter and easy to get back on highway to head home. There is so much to do in the area, but it was over 90 degrees the day we arrived and the next day that we didn't get around to the Stringtown Park which was what I had planned for the first day we arrived. Although we were there only for one night, we did wish we stayed another couple! The hotel amenities were the best in all the hotels we stayed in from East to West coast.... The Staff were top of the line and quite frankly, I wish they could give tips to others in the hotel world of how to treat guests..... Very close to airport and short 30 min drive to The Ark Experience which was breathtaking. We are returning between Day after Thanksgiving to end of year for Christmas lights display. The views were amazing! Plus the small city had everything anyone would need. Restaurants close and wonderful! We ate at Sonny's and we were very happy with the quality, taste and price of our dinner! Bardstown is a hidden Gem. So many great shops, restaurants & bars. Very walkable & safe. We found great German food at Kreso's on 3rd st. Authentic European cuisine. The best I've had stateside. For drinks, the go to is a bar called The Volstead. Styled as a speakeasy, they claim to have about 1200 varieties of liquor. Their specialty drinks are GREAT. Many interesting shops of all kinds.
