A Summer Retreat Off Cape Cod
The charming island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, also known as The Vineyard, is a famous summer colony situated south of Cape Cod on the Atlantic Ocean. Popular with keeping low-profile celebrities, the island is a perfect destination for beach relaxation, fishing trips and hiking the cliffs.
Accessible only by planes and boats, Martha’s Vineyard is a peaceful oasis, where one can truly rest in a no-fuss atmosphere and fantastic summer weather. You can start your Vineyard experience in Oak Bluffs, town in the north-east part of the island, known for its Victorian-style cottages and a beautiful harbour.
West from Oak Bluffs, there is Vineyard Haven, the main entry port of the island and during summer, one of its most populous tourist destinations. There you can rent a 4x4 and drive to see the Vineyard’s lighthouses, including the Gay Head Lighthouse in Aquinnah located next to the cliffs going by the same name.
Other island activities include horseback riding, cycling, golfing and, of course, sailing. You can practice the latter in Martha’s Vineyard’s town of Edgartown, an old whaling port and the location for the filming of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.

The porch had rocking chairs and loved sitting there with a cup of tea listening to birds and reading books about Martha’s Vinyard history. We were lucky to have breakfast out on the porch before weather changed. Our room was small but had everything we needed, a comfortable bed, the best mattress i slept in a hotel and a very good shower. Loved the decor, we instantly relaxed and felt the peace in that place. Breakfast was so tasty, with choice of boiled eggs, delicious freshly baked muffins and fruit. Special thanks to Omar who looked after us and cooked most delicious scrambled eggs. He has such a calming and reassuring nature. We were caught in the storm from Atlantic which hit the island. Omar was so helpful trying to find out information and call the ferry company for us. We loved the history, charm and beautiful people who make this island so special. We were attracted by the pool and the reviews of the delicious breakfasts, which were absolutely delicious and varied each day. Although we didn't have a car we enjoyed the walk through the suburb of Vineyard Haven to our gorgeous cocoon at Charles and Charles. The New England houses and gardens were a joy to behold. After a day of sightseeing, we enjoyed a dip in the pool to rejuvenate. We maximised the local buses to cover most of the island and found the drivers friendly. The location in Edgartown is excellent and is a short walk away from restaurants / town area / beach. The town itself is quaint and perfect for families. Katie at reception was super nice and helpful with our request for a late check-in and with food / activity recommendations. The Richard is a small boutique hotel and the rooms are slightly smaller in size, however it was perfect for a 2 night stay. The interior decorations are very modern, clean and cozy. If you want to visit the other two towns (Edgartown, and Vineyard Haven or just see the island- bus transportation is available and FREE to those traveling without a car! There are a lot of things to see and do on the Island.
There are a lot of things to see and do on the Island. We were there for a wedding and stayed 3 days, but we could have stayed a few more in order to take in the Edgartown side of the Island. Oak Bluffs has something for everyone. Lots of great restaurants, the Flying Carousel for families, a beautiful Town Common to sit and enjoy the sites. Lots of lovely homes with gorgeous gardens. We really enjoyed Biscuits Restaurant for Breakfast, Nancys on the water for lunch and really loved the Midnight Tacos restaurant for late night drinks and delicious food.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

The people are very friendly and quite helpful! It's a beautiful everywhere! The Gingerbread Houses were spectacular! The food was superb. I bought the most delicious potpie I've ever had at a nearby farm store that I wish I could remember the name of. I also had the most moist and crunchy cod fish and chips ever. This was my very first trip to the island (that's why I can't remember the names, but I stayed at The Frankin Hotel Martha Vineyard, which everything was within walking distance from everything and I'll be returning throughout the new year and I plan on staying in Edgartown!!! Depending on how you like to vacation, this is a very good spot. It was close to all of the day trips we wanted to do. Our rental was like staying in a small house. This was helpful because we were on a 3-week trip and had over packed to begin with. We had looked at a camping ground, but the extra amount of 'stuff' we would have needed would have been overwhelming. It's vacation spot, so you will have to deal with traffic, but it wasn't as bad as Route 80 in Jersey at rush hour. There were a number of good restaurants, but the kitchen in the rental made it the best between eating out and eating in.Guest review byJoseph
