- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 160 reviewsWe loved every aspect of this experience. The staff were all incredible; we were so impressed by the guide's knowledge, enthusiasm & respect for the animals and nature. They made the game drives so enjoyable (even when raining). The reserve is a great size & we had such memorable sightings & animal encounters (elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalo, tortoises, hippos, giraffes, jackal to name a few). We loved the intimate feel of Quatermains, with just 6 guests & everyone eating breakfast and dinner together - which were both delicious. Our personal hot tub heated by a wooden stove was the icing on the cake! Would highly recommend. Thank you so much to Liam, Johan, Nick, Julie & Riaan for a once in a lifetime experience.Guest review byMaeveIreland
- From US$883.90 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 323 reviewsWe had a wonderful experience in Woodbury Lodge. We loved our guide Roxy who is extremely knowledgeable and an outstanding ranger. She was able to show us lions, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, elephants, all sorts of antilope, monkeys and warthogs. The only animal we didn’t see was a cheetah as they are very rare to spot but Roxy made a huge effort to find it. She had great knowledge on birds and the reserve itself. Her driving skills are excellent! The accommodation itself is wonderful and very clean. Each room has their own terrace overlooking the waterhole where the animals come to drink. Absolutely magical to watch!Guest review byHeineIreland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 303 reviewsEverything about this accommodation feels luxurious from the minute you arrive. We stayed in one of the tents which was really nice with all the facilities you’d expect in a normal room. The road noise from the highway is notable but didn’t affect our stay. Also we had a lot of ants in the tent but guess this is to be expected given the location, again this didn’t affect our enjoyment. The evening merl was Ok but not great however the breakfast was amazing. The highlights were the game drive and the giraffe walk which were simply incredible. We’d definitely return but possibly choose a room rather than the tent.Guest review byDamianUnited Kingdom
- From US$661.56 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 470 reviewsThe entire experience was phenominal. The amazing staff, the welcome, the foof, the luxury rented, and of course, the 2 game drives were incredible, with us seeing so many animals, despite the rain. We were mostly dry on the trucks, and there was a lovely fire to warm us up on our return. A fantastic family experience that we will never forget. Thanks to our fantastic guide, Roxy!Guest review byClareKirbyNew Zealand
- From US$1,283.80 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 60 reviewsThe whole experience exceeded our expectations. The food is superb and the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. They went through the trouble of making a separate meal for my partner to accommodate his food allergies. They also went to the trouble of setting up a screen and provided us with snacks to watch the rugby. We also got to see 4 of the Big 5 in one evening!Guest review bySunéSouth Africa

Stunning colonial architecture with a breathtaking backdrop of the reserve. Coffee/tea, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner, always with animals in sight. First time in Africa, first time doing a Safari. We’re in love! All thanks to Shamwari, and the staff and guides at Long Lee Manor!Guest review byTiagoPortugal

The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful.
The staff at Amakhala were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. the room was large and when you came back after the second safari they had turned the lights on. folded down the beds and put the heating on. That is a really great touch from the staff. The Park Rangers were very good. We had Jessie and he was very informative and had a great sense of humour. He really did his best to find the animals we all wanted to see and made it a special experience.Guest review byHuwUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We did an afternoon Giraffe walk through Bellevue Lodge and it was amazing - we were taken on a safari vehicle onto a game reserve and from there had to find the grazing giraffe. Once we spotted them, we drove close by and then got out of the vehicle to walk close (but not too close) to the giraffe to watch them eat their dinner. It was a lovely experience, and our guide Stephen was knowledgeable and friendly, answering all our questions. We stayed at the Bellevue Lodge for 1 night, it was a lovely small property with friendly staff.Guest review bySusanSwitzerland - 10.0
Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature.
Old style of buildings but in the based in the nature. Super bedroom and in the morning all kind of animals where in front of your room. Also the Akmala Game reserve tour is highly recommendable because we saw so many wild animals (lions, rhino's, cheetahs, secretary bird,...) The dinner in the lodge was superb.Guest review byBENNYSlovenia - 10.0

This was a new listing , and we were the first guests, LUCKY US!! The facilities offered are too many to mention. An updated kitchen with everything that opens and closes and more. Filter water on tap, a wine fridge, every spice that you can imagine. If you have forgotten anything at home, no stress they have it. A beautiful, clean, large family home. The beds are comfortable, shower pressure is great, wifi, dstv and views from every bedroom. Our host Larraine was wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. This gem is a true home from homeGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Amakhala Game Reserve is a haven for wild animals and a brilliant place for a safari. Many of the animals used to roam the land 100 years ago before the land was used for farming. In the early 2000's the land was returned to its natural habitat and the animals reintroduced, with the aim of conservation and breeding of endangered species. As it is in a malaria-free area, it is the perfect location for a safari for people who get bitten by mozzies! There were only a few jeeps out on drives at any time, so you rarely come across other people. There are several lodges in the reserve to choose as your base (we stayed at Safari Lodge, which was brilliant).Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The whole experience was amazing.
The whole experience was amazing. Difficult to put into words. Spectacular views from the lodge, very knowledgeable and professional rangers, great food, extremely friendly atmosphere, very thoughtful touches (like running a bubble bath on return from game drive), wonderful decor.Guest review byMuttlichUnited Kingdom
