Our stay at The River Manor by Living Journey was nothing short of outstanding—an unforgettable experience that perfectly blended elegance, comfort, and warm South African hospitality. Nestled in the heart of Stellenbosch, this charming boutique hotel is a peaceful oasis that feels both secluded and yet wonderfully central, just a short walk to the town's vibrant cafes, galleries, and wine bars. From the moment we stepped through the gates, we were greeted with genuine warmth by the staff, whose attention to detail and pride in their service set the tone for a truly exceptional stay. We’d like to give a special commendation to Anathi, who truly went above and beyond during our stay. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine care made a lasting impression on us. She anticipated our needs before we even voiced them and made each interaction feel personal and heartfelt. Anathi is a true gem and an incredible asset to the River Manor team. Our room was beautifully appointed—tastefully decorated with a blend of classic and contemporary touches, immaculately clean, and incredibly comfortable. The bed felt like sleeping on a cloud, and the little thoughtful touches—from luxurious toiletries to made it feel special. The gardens and pool area were serene and lush—ideal for relaxing after a day of exploring wine country. We often found ourselves lingering there just to soak up the tranquil atmosphere. Breakfast each morning was a highlight: a generous spread of fresh fruit, pastries, hot dishes made to order, and delicious coffee, all served in a bright, sunny space overlooking the garden. The staff were consistently attentive and kind—always ready with a smile or a helpful recommendation. What truly stood out at The River Manor was the staff. Every person we encountered went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and happy—from helping us with restaurant bookings to offering insider tips on wineries and nearby sights.

Our stay was just one night, but the place is really beautiful and cozy. We enjoyed our bottle of wine next to the fireplace and we had a time of our lives. Hosts are kind and helpful and there is a parking space just next to our room. There is a nice restaurant and kids playground in front. Definitely recommend.

Near all major roads and towns, yet out of town in a quiet rural setting with beautiful views and a peacful environment. Several restaurants and wine in the immediate vicinity or within 15 minutes drive. Most wine farms have great restaurants. Avoid Stellenbosch during peak traffic times.

We came here from England for dental treatment and to attend the LifeShine Wellness centre which we can highly recommend. This is on the border of Somerset West and Stellenbosch. It is a beautiful area with lots going for it. We have visited the Helderberg Nature Reserve which is a joy. Lots of super Wine Farms with excellent restaurants. Some fun restaurants in Somerset West. Favourite eating places are Ben's on the Beach Restaurant on the sea front. Idiom wine farm in the hills above Somerset West. Up market outstanding food. Costly but worth it for a special occasion. Mary Anne's Emporium vegan restaurant in town was recommended at the Wellness Clinic and we enjoyed a different eating experience. This is week days only and not evenings. So breakfast and lunch. Farmer's and craft markets which we so enjoy as we get to meet people who love and want to talk about their craft. A long beach to walk and swim from, at the Strand if you get the tides right! Having a car is essential! Weather very variable in September into October. One day winter and the next summer! Foggy today.

Friendly staff with great accommodation super comfy beds and very spacious. The garden is beautiful and the breakfast was five star quality! The Stellenbosch countryside is a breathtaking blend of natural beauty, rich heritage, and tranquil charm. Nestled in the heart of South Africa’s renowned Winelands, it boasts rolling vineyards, majestic mountains, and picturesque farm estates that stretch as far as the eye can see. The landscape is dotted with historic Cape Dutch architecture, charming wine farms, and artisanal markets, creating a perfect harmony between tradition and modern rural living. Whether you're sipping world-class wines, exploring scenic hiking trails, or simply enjoying the peace of the open landscape, the Stellenbosch countryside offers an unforgettable escape into nature and culture. By the end of the first night we regretted not booking for more days. Karen is a super-host among all I have experienced. Her kindness, availability and willingness to help us is deeply appreciated. The recommendations to the local attractions were spot on and amplified our stay even more. Visiting the wine farms was great! We visited Somerbosch with our trip. We also had a quick bite to eat at The Thirsty Scarecrow. We loved the pizzas at Ishushu from their trailer at Steynsrust bridge. The scenic drives along the coast, especially to Rooi Els and Betty'sbay was breathtaking. Don't skip a coffee and toastie at Coffee on the Go in Gordonsbay. Will need to go back for another month to get to see all they have to offer.
