We stayed two nights at Nanten-En and everything was incredible. The location is super calm. You can enjoy silence and a nice walk around. The service was incredible, everyone was kind. The meals were beautifully prepared and delicious. I truly recommend it for the experience. I will make sure to go back during my next trip to Japan. Thank you so much !!

The plant-based dinner & breakfast were so delicious and beautifully presented. The room is well-maintained and clean. The wall decorations in the room I had was super gorgeous. Also, the garden view from my room was idyllically wonderful; it felt like time stood still. Combined with the great history of the place, It made such a heartfelt stay.

Oh my! The absolute best hotel we stayed at. The ryokan was absolute. Outside foot bath. Hot stone rest room. Onsen in and out real onsen (people go there more for that). The dinner was a poetry. All music to my ears. Absolute amazing place.

The warmth and openness of the monks and staff, the clean and elegant interiors found in the entire property, delicious shojin ryori beautifully presented in the room, purposeful guided meditation in a beautiful hall, the ceremonies with the strong and beautiful voices of the monks - all of these combined made for an unforgettable stay at Ekoin. Meeting Nori, Se Shiu, and all the other monks was one of the highlights of our trip; they made us feel really welcome anytime we met and were happy to answer our questions with insight and thoughtfulness, making it look easy when in fact they were always busy with keeping things in order. They also guide guests during the Okunoin Cemetery night tours and imbue it with a lot of meaning.

Super welcome from the staff, including a detailed introduction to the ryokan and how to conduct yourself (delivered in a professional and welcoming manner). Amazing ryokan and relaxing onsen. Highly recommend. Serene surroundings of the beautiful garden and pond. Truly idyllic. Thoughtfully tailored vegan kaiseki for my partner. Taste didn’t 100% hit the mark (see below sole negative comment), but we couldn’t fault the effort that had gone into the meal. Great breakfast. Unique experience (breakfast in a yukata).

11 course menu (Kaiseki) was outstanding, just like the rest of the meals. Everybody was very friendly and accommodating. Received personal advice on what to see in the area. Very quiet, despite train station in close proximity. Hot spring (onsen) can be used almost all day and night. Beautiful traditional Japanese rooms. Would love to stay again.

Although not far from Osaka and easy to reach by train, this is a quiet place in midst of forests and mountains. We went there for one night with dinner and breakfast, and especially the dinner served in our tatami room was a great experience. The onsen was not crowded and pleasant, yet maybe the most spectacular one.
