Ryokans in Kutami

Albeit a bit out of the way, especially if you don't drive, the hospitality and quality of the rooms & food provided are by far worth the trip. My wife and I went here as part of our honeymoon trip, and after travelling by bus for an hour (from Kumamoto) and a 20-minute walk in torrential rain with a suitcase each, we arrived to be greeted warmly and for them to help dry off our suitcases and shoes without even asking. We were given a little basket each and were asked to pick some items to make our stay comfortable, such as face wash, toothbrush/paste, hair brush, socks, and a yukata. You could choose your own which was a nice touch. The room we stayed in was very sizable and led out back to a gorgeous private onsen. The dinner we had was 7 courses, consisting of whatever local seasonal foods they had. So a range of different vegetables, fish, crab & meat. The quality of the food was phenomenal, and the staff were very professional yet friendly. I speak limited Japanese and they speak limited English but they were committed to communicating with us about the food to make sure we had the best dining experience. We each left a sizable amount of rice as we were full by the end, and the staff offered to use the remaining to make onigiri for us to take with us! The breakfast the following morning was also of very high quality, and plenty of it too! This again came in a number of courses and was delicious. We would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a lovely experience at a Ryokan that has a private onsen. I couldn't ask for a better staff to give you a fantastic stay.

The roasting marshmallow part was fun! My room can see the cherry blossoms on the street, and it’s wide and clean. The staffs are polite.

Clean and tidy rooms separate from the main building with an Onsen bath. Kettle also supplied and room very spacious with an Onsen bath. Close to everything in the town and right next to bus station. Was also able to leave my bags in reception on day I checked out

spacious room with great atmosphere!!

*Hotel was located in a peaceful and beautiful mountain village. Our house was a detached one, which was huge, modern, spotless clean, very quiet and comfortable, with beautiful private garden. The design and lighting of the house created a feeling of calmness and relaxation. *Quality of both breakfast and dinner were very high and extremely delicious. River view from the large windows of restaurant was stunning. Watching at the picturesque river and greenery while enjoying meals was so amazing. *It was surprised that one of the young female staff, Aiko, could even speak fluent English. So, we did not have problems in communication during our stay. *Hotel staff were very friendly and attentive. They tried their best to make our stay comfortable and happy. The manager was so thoughtful. He changed the menu for our dinners every day to enhance feeling of freshness. The young lady, Aiko, was very helpful. She helped us a lot in our problem about phone card. *We have wonderful stay here.

We made a mistake on our arrival date, the staff were wonderful, found rooms for us with no fuss and then helped with dinner booking at nearby restaurant. The private onsen was great and the rooms were very clean and spacious. I would highly reccomend.

Onsen has a very atmosphere! Room is comfortable but a bit small for three of us though manageable. Staff were patient when i had some issues with the credit card. Breakfast spread was good and the sitting arrangement was good and not noisy! Nice sea food restaurant within walking distance. Ample car park space.
