It was more fancy than I thought it would be, truly amazing. The Japanese style room and the public bathing area were both a fantastic experience. Close to the beach, with quite a few restaurants and stores around, direct bus to the station. There's a fridge, a kettle, some welcome teas and snacks, and a yukata for after the bath! They have three sizes. Highly recommend.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I booked. However the stay here at Kaichoen was very fabulous. Onsen lovely. Room huge by Japanese standards and even by Australian standards. Greeting by staff in pouring rain amazing. I loved that staff were willing to communicate with us even though we don’t speak Japanese. We managed to organise breakfast. Breakfast was the best we have had in Japan. Thank you for a very unexpected and memorable experience. Highly recommend.

Seaside hotel. Able to see the beautiful sun rising from the sea level. The hotel has a notice on the timing of the sunset and sunrise. Quiet neighborhood with some restaurants nearby. I love it when I didn’t see any tourists other than Japanese themselves which make us feel like locals. Love the onsen.

Very very nice typical Japanese ryokan remotely located next to a temple : amazing setting! The dinners and breakfasts were outstanding. The first dinner was fully veggie (pilgrim requirement perhaps) and delicious, then they asked us if we eat fish and meat, then had also fish and meat dishes. The ryokan-keepers were so kind and helpful to help us locate the place. Because, it is very remote and GPS coordinates not that accurate.

What can I say? This Ryokan was even better than how I’d pictured it. It’s hidden in a forest surrounded by nature and peacefulness. I even had a view from my room of the beautiful three story pagoda. The food is excellent and dinner comes in courses and beautifully presented like fine food (I chose the mostly vegetarian option), eaten in the private dining rooms with big windows to see the nature. The hot bath (not a true hot spring) has a schedule in evening and is freely available in the morning. I took a relaxing bath both morning and evening. It was exactly what I needed to get away from the hustle of the cities and recover from work stress. The owners are very kind, with one of them I was able to communicate a bit in English. I walked from the nearest train station there, which took me a bit under 1.5 hours. As I enjoy walking and the countryside is beautiful it wasn’t a problem, but it’s something to be mindful of, as there is no bus and the only other option is a taxi.

Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Room was spacious with a tatami area by the window. All amenities available by reception, with a large selection of yukata for use throughout the hotel and in the onsen on the 3rd floor. Free hotel parking is available.

The hotel is clean and just next to the beach. We picked a seaview room from which we can enjoy a nice view. The onsen is nice too. The breakfast was offered by a restaurant next to the hotel. The food quality is not very high, but it did provide crabs and the staff were friendly, so it’s still value for money.
