Everything! The most loveliest hosts, felt really like spending the stay in their family. Since vegan dinner options were rare in Iiyama, the host lady prepared a vegan vegetable stew and tofu as a side dish just for me and we had dinner together at their family kitchen table. ♡ Though communicating in English was a bit difficult, the 3 of them made an immense effort to communicate with me via Google translate - loved and enjoyed learning more about Iiyama, their life and Japanese culture so much! Also, met their lovely daughter Natsumi again by accident in Nozawa at Haus St. Anton a few days later which was lovely! :) Thank you for everything!!!

the building is amazing. I loved all the art, all the corners, the garden with the koi, the private onsen for 1500¥ / 45 minutes. classical music is playing until 10pm. there’s unlimited coffee for free. fresh drinking water, tea, sweets and fresh flowers will wait for you every day in your room. the room we stayed in was spacious and had beautiful light. the staff was always professional, helpful and considerate. the snow monkey park is easily reachable by foot, and there’s are great cafe / restaurant (the farmhouse) very close, if you fancy some local beer and food.

Just wow, beautiful location, amazing food, the staff were lovely. Not sure you could find anything more traditional. A really awe inspiring experience. The onsen was soo beautiful. A shame that the men get the most time in the Momoyama section as it is jaw droppingly beautiful and would be so cool to watch the day break from there. Great that you can take photos in the morning before you depart. So atmospheric at night. Not touristy at all and full of locals. Scrub up on your Japanese before you go!

Akira and Yumi were exceptional hosts, super friendly and polite. The ryokan was even more beautiful than in the pictures. The private onsen was wonderful and we were able to go there whenever we wanted. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Akira and Yumi were also able to cater for my multiple allergies which amazed me. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the river. The sound of the white water was relaxing.

Everything! The private onsens, the traditional dinner with 10 courses, the host was very kind and welcoming. The room was very nice, clean, traditional ryokan one. I slept like a badger :)) Yukata are provided in the room and you can wear them throughout the village. The bathroom just next to the room, but it was private. It is a typical Japanese washlet with all the buttons and confort. There is even a mini fridge and aircon. You can pay by credit card or cash. Will love to go back again!

Staff attention is outstanding, they picked up us at the train station, they took us to the monkey park, they transfer our bags to the train station while we were at the park, although they did not provide shuttle service from the monkey park to the station, they picked up us as the schedule of the bus to the station had changed recently and we were unable to take it and there were no taxis at town. Dinner and breakfast deserve special attention as it was fantastic, excellent quality, local delicacies like mushrooms and a wide variety of dishes. The room with private onsen was one of the best experiences in Japan.

Wonderful owners, felt like home in a traditional ryokan. The owner was kind enough to drop us at the train station early in the morning. Enjoyed the hot spring bath as well Owner is a sweet guy who will give a free ride to Snow Monkey Park as well. He send us off with a lucky charm ribbon
