Windermere town centre is small but has plenty of cafes and restaurants to meet all food lovers types. There are a good selection of shops for gifts etc. and all are within a few hundred yards and not too far from the railway station or buses to travel to other parts of the lakes. It is also a 10 to 15 minute walk to Bowness (downhill) which is also the place to hop on to the lake boats or alternative dining or shopping and the Beatrix Potter experience. We had our honeymoon in Windermere many years ago, so revisiting places. Windermere is a beautiful location with plenty to do for all the family. Easy to get around with buses to the Lakes if no car. The area is stunningly beautiful and the people are so friendly and chatty. It was a real pleasure to be there. I'd recommend a day tour just so you see everything. The hotel was in a good location within walking distance to the town of Windemere and Bowness-on-Windermere which had a lot more to offer than the actual town of Windermere. At first, I had only booked for 1 night but extended it for 2 as it was so nice. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, and the bed was comfortable. It was very conveniently located to Windermere station, the local buses and Windermere town itself. Although I arrived too early for check-in, a staff member kindly stored my bags in the hotel prior to putting them in my room for me.
