The warm welcome from the gentleman who greeted us and showed us our rooms was really appreciated . The rooms in this hotel are exceptional! The bed, linen, towels and toiletries were of excellent quality and we had the best sleep in fact we could have quite happily stayed in the room and not gone out for dinner.

Hotel San Polo, hotel in Salamanca

Located in Salamanca’s Old Quarter, Hotel San Polo is built around the ruins of the Romanic San Polo Church. The hotel offers fantastic panoramic views of Salamanca Cathedral, just 150 metres away.

The location was excellent and my reason for booking San Polo. Grumpy staff, no A/C, no fresh air. The window opened but let in all the car fumes and traffic noise. Dreadful breakfast coffee.

FAQs about hotels in Salamanca

An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture

In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.

Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.

One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.

Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels, guest houses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 15 km away from the city and is easily accessible by public transport.

Salamanca is a beautiful city with lots of fabulous buildings all within easy walking distance. It also has good restaurants (definitely try Taberna de Libreros) It can be busy when the day trippers arrive but is quieter in the evenings.

    Great architecture and friendly atmosphere.

Great architecture and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants. It would have been very helpful if menus could have been in English for us as many times we didn’t buy because we didn’t know what we were ordering and the translate app wasn’t good enough at times. Made food ordering laborious and way to difficult at times.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing. It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment. We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

If you want to really know Spain: Visit Salamanca. I think it is underrated for what it is. Every corner of the city will surprise you with its rich cultural heritage. Brilliantly lit at night, it is perfect for late night tours. The city is safe, people are friendly, food is simply excellent! Didnt get enough out of my visit, will go again!

Salamanca has a very important role in the history of medieval philosophy, being one of the oldest continuously matriculated schools in the world, where Jesuits and Dominican friars debated about the universe and the rights of men, where Cervantes studied, and where inquisitors were honed. Well, a good background reading is a must rather than simply becoming a passive guest of this ancient city (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salamanca).

I stay here on my way north and south. The hotel might not be so convenient for visitors and tourists just visiting Salamanca, but: Safe easy parking and easy access to motorways without getting caught up in the city streets. Cheap (€10) taxi into town for dinner. Large quiet rooms and very comfy beds, clean well equipped en suites (in my experience few have baths, only showers). Charming staff and English speakers on reception. Large clean restaurant and bar area, with a patio in the garden for warmer months. Very reasonably priced.

The hotel room was very spacious, large and spotlessly clean, it smelled fresh when we entered. The staff were helpful. The location of the hotel is not exactly in the centre, but you can reach the Roman Bridge on foot in 5-10 minutes depending on your walking speed. You can park for free on the streets around the hotel, which is a great advantage. It is a hotel we will come again when we come to Salamanca again. There are both Lidl and Mercadona just one street parallel to the hotel, this is also an advantage if you need something.
